Hi,

We recently adopted a rescue greyhound and are looking for recommendations for a vet in the area with experience dealing with greyhounds. Because of their physiology, certain medications and anesthesia affect them differently and we'd prefer a vet and practice that already has experience with their needs.

Also, if people have recommendations for local dog obedience classes that focus on clicker training, that'd great. (and heck, dog walkers with grey experience, while I'm at it!)

Thanks!

you can't go wrong with angell. they're the experts in everything dog (and cat, and ferret, and bird, and etc etc) related.

I took my dog to obedience training at Angell and it was awesome and clicky.

We take our greyhound to Dr. Parker at Porter Square Vet. All the vets there seem quite knowledgeable about the breed so we've been satisfied.

We also went to two different classes at Canine University (http://canineuniversity.com/), which is about a 15 minute drive from Davis. They use 100% positive reinforcement and clicker techniques, though we'd clicker-trained our dog beforehand. She was a little skittish in that environment -- noisy, lots of strange dogs -- but the staff was very understanding (they even gave her a special mat for her greyhound butt). I highly recommend them.

I think I know your greyhound :) (from the image of you in your icon) Or at least *squee*'d at the dear near the Davis T after work every once in a while, due to having two when I was in my teens :)

Yay.

A friend of mine helps out at Canine University (you met her the time you came to word games).

We also have a vet practice we go to in Davis who has treated our cats quite well, but you'd have to ask them about their greyhound experience.

I agree with the recs for Canine University. My sister took her corgi there and the clicker training seems to have worked out well.

My boss took his greyhound to Dr. Looby's practice (specifically Dr. Tarczynski) in Medford, and now that he has a new greyhound he'll be taking her there as well. The front desk staff can be brusque, he says, but he's very happy with the care his greyhounds have gotten.
