So I was just thinking, is there anything that we can do as a community to prevent the landlords from charging an exorbitant amount of rent for that space?

I had posted yesterday that the space is on loopnet.com for 20k and people started tweeting about it, everyone in shock.  Basically it got me thinking, do residents have a say in what gets placed in the space?

Only a restaurant or bar or chain will be able to afford that rent.

It would really suck if it was a Qdoba.

You could say "free market" real estate practices constitute an injustice because they harm the authentic interests of the community, and because differences in wealth are primarily accounted for by which womb one comes from.

Whether those arguments are sound, or if it's ever practical to intervene to correct the situation, I don't know. But it's not patently absurd to say "it ain't right".

huh? I'm trying to dissect your point, and what I keep coming to is that you really need to read an econ 101 book. Or something by Prof. Krugman (if you want the awesome, bleeding heart liberal economist. When he's against rent control, you know its bad).

OK, thank you for informing me of what you keep coming to when you are trying to dissect my point.
