DON'T LET CIAMPA WIN!
Oct. 31st, 2004 10:30 amIn September's Democratic primary, voters in Medford and Somerville selected Carl Sciortino as their new state rep. for the 34th Middlesex district, ousting longtime incumbent Vincent Ciampa. In response, Ciampa has launched a nasty write-in campaign, calling Sciortino a "one-issue candidate" because of his stand against the gay marriage amendment and recruiting an antigay Waltham organization (Article 8) to blast Sciortino as a member of the "homosexual lobby." Some of you may have seen a barrage of bulk mail from Ciampa and Article 8 (the Waltham group) in your mailbox -- as well as more campaign literature from Sciortino, who is pressed to defend himself against the Ciampa camp's charges.
Learn more about Ciampa's ill-motivated write-in bid here.
So, while some of you may feel like staying home on Tuesday because 'your vote doesn't matter,' it most certainly does for many local races, especially the 34th Middlesex race, where a campaign of hate and divisiveness is seeking to upend Sciortino's victory, which was won on a platform of concern for schools, health care, urban issues and a breadth of other issues that touch all of us.
So GET OUT AND VOTE (find out where to vote), and if you're in the 34th Middlesex district, don't let hate write its way back into the State House -- support Sciortino!
(BTW, I'm not affiliated w/the Sciortino campaign, I'm just a Somerville resident who's pissed off at Ciampa's dirty tactics... I actually called the number listed on his campaign materials to lodge a complaint with his campaign, and ended up having words with his wife!)
