Parking

So I broke my leg last weekend running & am just now back in town due to some other medical complications that erupted from the injury. My question is about parking. I live on a small street that has very limited parking. There are 2 spots infront of my house, 3 spots at the next door neighbor's house & then a handicapped spot 3 blocks down & that's it. Has anyone ever gotten a spot infront of their house to be temporarily held for them? Like a temporary handicapped spot? I called Traffic & Parking & was transferred to a voicemail of someone that is out of office till tomorrow. I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever done something like this? Has anyone asked before? I would guess they would want a note from my doctor if they grant things like this.

Oh & since I know someone will ask - it's my non-driving leg that I broke

Wow, that really sucks -- I'm so sorry. If I may ask (as an aspiring runner), how did you break it, and how badly?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would imagine there is a procedure for this sort of thing. I've certainly seen temporary handicapped parking spots, anyway. I hope you heal quickly.

Oh my, how horrible. Did you fall and just not realize how bad it was? Or was it a stress fracture?

I'm currently training for Boston. I have a great coach, but I'm still worried about everything that can go wrong.

Hope you're back on your feet soon.

Well, not sure about Somerville, but when I broke my foot last year, I called the RMV about getting a temporary HP tag for my car for grocery stores and malls, etc, and they told me that it would take up to 6 weeks to get the tag, IF it was approved. Well crap, by then my foot would have been almost healed. (lol, no pun intended), so I didn't bother.

However, seeing as one of my mom's tenants (yes, in Davis sq. ) got a ticket, and their car was LEGALLY parked in front of the house, WITH a resident sticker on the dashboard, I fear for you. Those parking cops are mean.

Anyway, good luck and let us know how it went. Oh, and feel better.

:)

Why did the tenant get a ticket if the car was legally parked? It generally gives a reason on the ticket--do you happen to know what it was?

This happened a few years ago, and the tenants vehicle was an older model Dodge minivan, with Virginia plates. I'm assuming the ticket person did not see the resident card on the dashboard, as it was at an angle, and being out of state plates, perhaps ASSUMED they didn't live there. Don't know the exact details, as the tenants decided to pay up instead of fight city hall.

When I was recovering from my stroke, I was in no mood to deal with bureaucrats, so I found a handicapped icon on the web, printed an 11x17 sign with it and "Please Don't Park Here" in large print (and some explanatory text in smaller print), got it laminated, and wired it to a tree in front of my house. Only twice in the subsequent six months did I come home to find someone parked there. YMMV.
