Does anyone here see Dr. Juan Perez of Atlantic Health Care on Holland Ave.? Or Dr. Aurilio Manto? I've been a patient there for a couple years and like him and his practice, but today I'm trying to call and the number is disconnected. I talked to a receptionist at the Harvard Vanguard in the same building (to see if they take walk-in, which they don't) and they told me that over the past month they've been getting a lot of patients from Atlantic Health's office.

Anyone know anything about that office? Did it fold (without sending out notice to their patients?!?).

Relatedly, I guess I now need to find a walk-in clinic that doesn't suck, since apparently I don't actually have a doctor anymore. Recommendations for walk-ins?

Mt. Auburn walk-in clinic is good. It's a good alternative for the emergency room too, since insurance co-pays for emergency rooms are usually more expensive (~$100) than for the doctor visits (~$20), which is what they charge you in a walk-in clinic. I once got a chickenpox vaccine there after being in contact with someone who had chickenpox.

Harvard Vanguard's walk-in in Kenmore is great and you can actually make appointments, which is nice because then you dont sit around waiting to be seen.

Give the Mass. Board of Registration in Medicine a call and see if they can figure out what happened to your doctor's office and your medical records. There are legal requirements for them to keep your records intact and give you access to a copy.

I walked up to their 4th-floor office today and briefly talked to one of the people there. She told me:

- they are busy processing medical records. If you need to retrieve yours, come in and sign for it. They'll be open for a couple more weeks. They no longer have a phone.

- One of the doctors is moving to Georgia, and another is ceasing practice -- sorry, I don't remember which was which. She wouldn't tell me why the doctor was ceasing his practice.

- the third doctor, Dr. Kher (sp?) is still seeing patients there and has her own separate phone number (which I did not get)

Oh, that is good to know. It wouldn't have occurred to me to just stop by if I couldn't reach them by phone.

I was expecting to find a sign on the door, not an open office with people in it. What they're doing still makes no sense to me.

I believe Dr. Manto is the one moving to Georgia; I don't know what's up with Dr. Perez.

Hope it was not malpractice.

Have you tried searching for your doctor here? http://profiles.massmedboard.org/MA-Physician-Profile-Find-Doctor.asp They may be affiliated with another office already, or if they have hospital affiliations listed, you may be able to contact them that way.

Mt Auburn's walk-in is generally good.

I was a patient of Dr. Perez, my husband had Dr. Manto, and yup, they closed last month.
They did send us notices in late September, basically saying "Make arrangements to get your medical records ASAP, we are closing!", and given that we were out of town for half of October, it was kind of a problem.

(We did end up getting our records eventually; it involved sending them a letter telling them where to mail them.)

Sure, I'll have to wait until I'm home and can find the letter. :)

We sent the letter to the Holland Street address, the same one that's still up on the web site:

Hmm. I got a notice, but I don't think it said anything about making arrangements to get my records if I wanted them.

I was a patient of Dr. Perez, and got a notice from Mount Auburn Professional Services saying he was no longer practicing there, but it didn't give a reason.

I Was planning to try calling Atlantic Health Care direclty but hadn't got around to it yet (guess I won't bother now) to see if the whole practice had shut down, or why, or if Dr. Perez would be practicing elsewhere in the area (though I was thinking that wasn't likely since the letter I got suggested a few other area physicians associated with Mount Auburn Professional Services who were accepting new patients).

Huh. I was a patient of Dr. Manto, but never got a notice. I got notification from Mt. Auburn Hospital telling me that Dr. Manto was no longer affiliated with them, and I rather expected to get some follow-up. Damn.

The front door of Harvard Vanguard now has a sign actively soliciting patients of Drs. Manto and Perez to become Harvard Vanguard customers.
