Body Shops?

Last week, my car was off having fun without me and got into an accident. This week, I really ought to take it into a body shop to get started on the estimated $4K worth of repairs that may take a week or more. *sigh* At least it's covered, anyway.

Does anyone have recommendations for a great body shop? I live in Davis, but I'd rather go a bit of distance than settle. My insurance company gave me a list of all the certified body shops in the county, with the "preferred" places in bold. Using a preferred shop could be better for me financially (though I do have some paranoia that the special deals between the shops and the insurance company might mean lower grade work -- any thoughts?), but again, my priority is excellent work. My last car was in a minor accident before I owned it, and the replacement panels ended up rusting out. I've only had this car for a month (*sigh*) and I do not want anything similar in its future.

Thanks!

My body shop is in Quincy, off Furnace Brook Parkway. They are honest and understand the idea of not being covered for things (which I hadn't been in the past). C & L Auto Body, 45 Copeland St, Quincy. I can't say enough good things about them. Although, they are a bit far--I work in Quincy is why.

Several years ago, I used McCauley's Auto Body, in Woburn center, after a few minor accidents. I was happy with the work, and they were good people to deal with.

They're by the bus depot/new lofts between the square and Mass Ave. They've got a top notch reputation (they work on Ferrarri's and other high-end cars). They did a repair on my friend's Audi and it was excellent.

THAT explains why there are a zillion expensive cars parked out front! I thought it was because those lofts are really expensive ;)

I just had to go through this and went with A+ (A Plus) Autobody on Medford St in Somerville (behind the Library/High School). They've also fixed bodywork on my bf's van. They did things really quickly, and really well. I haven't had to deal with body shops before so I don't have much room for comparison. My insurance and A+ took care of pretty much everything (appraisal, rental car, pick-up, etc.), but i think the whole 'package' can also depend on your insurance. they were great to deal with anyway.

something i remebered last night is that for most insurance companies, if you choose someone on their list, particularly the recommended ones, it usually means that they have a relationship with the body shop, so if you're not happy with the repairs or service then you have better recourse (and usually the ins. co. will do all the work for you) than if you go for someone else.

Yes I second that motion. My wife's car was jinxed. (It got flooded by back up rains TWICE in two weeks).

I always impressed that by the guy who would make sure everyone was safe before looking at the car.
They're not quick, but that's because they're busy, and that says something.

When I got rear ended by a sausage truck (http://www.livejournal.com/users/wellstar/20496.html), I went to Mike's Autobody (http://www.mikes-autobody.com/) on Broadway in Malden. Although slightly inconvenient geographically, they did do a very good job, for about a thousand dollars cheaper than my (no longer) regular mechanic in Medford would have charged. Also, they have a relationship with the Enterprise down the street for replacement rentals, if your insurance covers that sort of thing.
