MSPCA-Angell 24th annual Walk for Animals

Sunday, October 17, 2004
Boston Common, Boston, MA

Registration begins at 8:30 am
Walk begins at 10:00 am

Somerville dog owners and our dogs are walking in the MSPCA-Angell Walk for Animals, Sunday, October 17, at the Boston Common. Our team goals are to recruit twelve team members and to raise a total of $1200 for MSPCA-Angell. To meet our fund-raising goal, we need twelve people to raise $100 each. A walker could raise $100 by getting ten friends, colleagues, and family members to donate $10 each. To join our team or make a donation to MSPCA-Angell, please visit the walk team page for team somervilledog.com.

In addition to serving local communities with animal health clinics and adoption centers, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a national and international leader in animal protection; their services include animal protection and adoption, advocacy, humane education, law enforcement and the highest-quality veterinary care available anywhere in the world.

MSPCA has seven animal care and adoption centers and three premier veterinary hospitals, including Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, one of the foremost clinical veterinary institutions in the world. MSPCA law enforcement officers investigate cruelty complaints, inspect facilities and events involving animals, testify in court, work with police and social-service agencies in animal-related cases, and speak to school and community groups about animal care and protection. As an advocacy group MSPCA promotes workable "pets allowed" policies, help for pet owners with HIV/AIDS, Spay/Neuter Assistance, and Humane Education. MSPCA's Niven's Farm facilitates in rehabilitation and adoption of all kinds of farm animals. The Hillside Acre Animal Cemetery offers a lasting tribute to beloved animal companions, bringing support and peace of mind to bereaved pet owners.

MSPCA-Angell welcomes all dogs that enjoy the company of other dogs to participate in the two mile walk. Dogs must be leashed, licensed, in good physical condition and up-to-date on all vaccinations. If you have a pet that cannot participate in the Walk, bring a photo for the "I Wish I Were Here" board!

Hello, all: I have an Apple iSight webcam for sale. It's brand new in the box (still shrink-wrapped, in fact; I got it for Christmas and haven't used it yet...I don't think I'm ever going to, honestly). The list at the Apple store is $149...I'd love to get that for it, considering it's never been opened, let alone used (and I won't charge sales tax).

If you're interested, respond to this or email me at my LJ address...I'm between Porter and Davis, so arrangements for delivery/pickup can be easily made.

Sushi?

What are your favorite places in Boston for reasonably priced and tasty sushi?

I'm posting this for my landlord (who has promised me a kickback if I find someone -- did something weird just happen to the housing market?) about an open apt in my building.

A studio (one room) apt for rent, available immediately, one block from Mass Ave, in North Cambridge, near Davis (10min walk), Alewife (15min walk), and Porter (20min walk).

Studio has electric heat, electric hot water, wall-mounted air conditioner, mini-kitchen along one wall (3/4 fridge, 3/4 range w/ 4 burners, sink), full bath (w/ tub), two closets. Hung ceiling. Wall-to-wall off-white carpeting. No other storage, no washer/drier (laudromat 3 blocks away). Two windows. Unusually thick walls, and deep eaves -- I leave my windows open when it rains. Landlord philosophy: benign neglect, though lately there have been a lot of repairs. Place still looks kind of run down. Building is first floor commercial (offices), second floor residential. Five residential units.

I think he's asking $825/mo. Off-street parking is available for extra. No idea about f/l/d.

Please contact me w/ a phone number and hours you can be reached, if interested, and I'll pass them along to him (not a net user, apparently, so I'm not keen on publicising his phone # on line).
