Apparently the Green Line extension is not a done deal.

Received from Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership (redundantly abbreviated as Somerville STEP) :

Please attend one of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Public Hearings on Wednesday December 21st and/or send written comments by January 17th to ensure that the Green Line Extensions move forward as soon as possible.

Hearings: Wednesday, December 21st at 10 AM or 6 PM at the DEP Offices, One Winter Street, 2nd Floor, at Downtown Crossing in Boston. Easily reached by Red & Orange Lines or a short walk from Green Line at Park.

I'm curious where else Davis Square is discussed on the web. I happened across this page today:
Yelp.com: Davis Square
and if you type "Davis" into the search box at Yelp.com, you'll see pages about many Davis Square businesses (as well as many irrelevant pages about other things that have Davis in their names).

This page at TheSomervilleNews.com, which started as a discussion of Rebekah Gewirtz's victory, ended up with a whole bunch of unrelated topics including the retail and commercial history of Davis Square.

Where else are people talking about our neighborhood?

(and by the way, does someone know how to make my two links above actually look like links?)

A month or two ago, the city approved conversion of One Davis Square (the yellow building between Dover and Day streets) into a three-story building. The first floor will be a CVS, the second a Boston Sports Club gym, and I think offices on the new third floor.
Construction will begin some time next year.

The owner decided to redevelop his building after the state welfare department (aka DTA, Department of Transitional Assistance) decided not to renew its lease. I am a little concerned about where they will move; many of the DTA's customers do not have cars, so Davis Square was an ideal place for their office. The building also houses some non-profits such as the Somerville Community Corp. and Somerville Haitian Coalition, which will also probably have to move out before construction starts.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] neitherday,

Being the moderator of a Livejournal community can be a thankless task -- but only if the members fail to remember to say "thank you". Lest you think your efforts on our behalf have gone unnoticed, we members of [livejournal.com profile] davis_square signed below are writing to let you know how much we appreciate your founding this community and seeing after it for so long. Please accept this gift with our gratitude for your years of service to the community. This corner of the Internet and the intersection of Holland, Elm, Highland, College and Dover are nicer places for your efforts.
