The storefront next to Martsa's on Elm Street, which I think used to be a hair salon, is now some sort of café. Has anyone here tried it yet?

Someone wants to open a Quizno's sub shop franchise at 401 Highland Avenue, where Disc Diggers used to be. The proposal keeps getting postponed from one Planning Board meeting to the next; it supposedly comes up again at this Thursday night's meeting.

While I can't see a real basis for showing up to oppose it, I also don't see it filling any real need, given that you can already get sandwiches of various kinds at Au Bon Pain, Blue Shirt, Mike's, Diesel, Christo's Seven Star, Subway, O'Natural's, and probably other places I've forgotten about.

Johnny D's is having a "Holiday Extravaganza" on Wednesday afternoon and evening, December 21. Local artists will be able to sell their jewelry, crafts, etc to the patrons from 4:30 - 7:30, with the "2nd Annual Casual Philharmonic
Sonic Christmas Cavalcade" to follow at 8:30. I'll post the full message (which was sent to the Somerville Arts Council mailing list) below the cut.

How reliable do you find the bus service at night? ( Say 89, 101, 96, etc)
Particularly with the increasing cold of winter, I'm wondering if people find it more difficult to get around.

I just recieved this from the Somerville Bicycle Coordinator. You can fill out this survey and send it to Steve Winslow at SWinslow (insert "at" symbol here) ci.somerville.ma.us

Subject: Somerville Residential Bike Parking - Testimonials on the Need

The City of Somerville Planning Board recently voted 3-2 to oppose a
residential bike parking requirement (they did support retail bike parking).
Several Planning Board members said that they did not see any strong need to
require residential bike parking. They were not convinced by national
information on bicycle ownership that there was any need to require
residential bike parking requirement. The Alderman will vote on the bike
parking ordinanace in early January 2006.

As Bike & Pedestrian Coordinator for the City, I am seeking to learn about
the experience of current and former Somerville residents with residential
bicycle parking in order to help establish that there's a need for it,
particularly in residences with more than 8 units. Please forward the
results of this survey back to swinslow (at) ci.somerville.ma.us
