more stupid crime near davis and porter

i live on charnwood- it's 1 block north of summer and off of hancock. someone tried to break into my boyfriend's car last night (he used to live in the back bay in boston; this is the FOURTH time his car has been broken into or attempted to be broken into) and broke both the locks. anyone else around here have something happen?

phantom tollbooths in Davis Sq. ...

apropos of nothing and not a serious proposal but I was thinking about sales taxes last night, the discussion of tolls on 93 south and something to do with all the border violence going on in the world these days. Suddenly I had this image of tollbooths/checkpoints on the roads entering Davis Sq. Weird but interesting to speculate on.

The growth in popularity of the sq. has brought higher rents and housing prices, higher prices in stores and bars and general gentrification. The city of Somerville and the property owners benefit but the residents don't. Would be interesting to have a toll that went to offset the costs of gentrification to people who actually live here.

Comparing Davis to Far-Off Places

I need some help with housing decision-making, and I'm hoping ya'll can give me some advice.

I just moved up to Davis a month ago, on a two-month sublet. I lived here last summer, and I adore Davis Square. The plan had always been for me to move in with a friend of mine come September. Problem is, she wants to live in the Brookline/Brighton area. I work in Watertown, so that's not a terrible stretch for me commute-wise (might it even be shorter?) - but if anyone has lived on the other side of the river, I really could use some advice about how it compares to Davis.
