Can anyone suggest a restaurant/bar in the general area that could host a small cocktail party of 20-30 people on a Saturday night? Guests would buy their own drinks, but I would ideally purchase (through the restaurant) about $100 in simple appetizers. A private room isn't necessary. I can deal with Redline's prices in Harvard Square, but am looking for something more convenient to the Davis/Porter/Inman areas.

Would Orleans be able to handle this? Or PJ Ryan's, even?

Thanks!

EDIT 5/18/07: Regretfully, we are cancelling this event entirely. It will not take place on either Saturday May 19 or Sunday, May 20. The weather forecast is just too dismal for both days. We will try to reschedule for some time in June. Sorry!

On Saturday, May 19, the Somerville Bicycle Committee and the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission will lead a bicycle tour of historic sites in Somerville and Medford.

The ride meets at 10 am at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue. It will be about ten miles long and take about three hours (since we're making lots of stops).

If it rains, we'll reschedule the ride for the following day (Sunday, May 20), same time and location.

E-mail me, Ron Newman <rnewman@thecia.net> if you'd like any other information. Or post a comment here, and I'll answer it.

Massage hasn't been a topic for awhile here so I thought I'd post a good experience I had with Bridget Devine at Right Turn, in Arlington Center (it's on the 77 bus line, right where Mass Ave intersects Broadway). She's usually out at the Thoreau club, which charges like $100/hour but on Sundays she works at Right Turn in Arlington and charges $65 for an hour-- and she went over that in my case!

Her email is bridevine@yahoo.com and I highly recommend her work.

Is there any chance someone's gotten some trophy engraving work done nearby? I have a foosball trophy with standard plaque-sized name plates that needs some winners' names put on there.

It's a long shot, but does anyone have any experience with this? Preferably close?

The Second Annual Boston Zombie March will take place Saturday May 12!

BOSTON, MA - They are the undead and they are here to eat your brains - again. The second annual Boston Zombie March will take place on Saturday, May 12 when dozens of the undead will convene to march, lurch, breakdance and shuffle down Mass. Ave., all in the name of a good time. Marchers will make themselves up like zombies and act the part along the march's route between Davis and Harvard Squares. Zombies from all corners of Beantown will gather at 6:30pm at Davis Square and in the tradition of Night of the Living Dead director, George A. Romero's original slow-moving zombies, begin their forward shuffle through Cambridge.

Last year's inaugural March attracted over 100 zombified Bostonians and dozens of photographers and onlookers. Families, college students, young professionals and observers were swept up in the Zombie March mania at the first March held on April 29 in 2006. Zombie March organizers look forward to attracting more people to the event in 2007.

“Toronto, San Francisco, Sydney even Madison, Wisconsin have all had successful Zombie Marches, but Bostonians have really taken the March to a whole other level. Maybe it's all the institutes of higher education we have. Lots of brains;I predict it's going to be a widespread Boston tradition pretty soon. Spinazzola, New England Spring Flower Show and the Boston Zombie March." says KA, one of the March organizers.
Rain or shine, the March will wind its way down Mass Ave. and conclude for an afterparty at The Cellar bar at 991 Mass. Ave. near Harvard Square. For further information, visit halfway to human dot com

I'm not one to ask without googling. I've been googling this for a couple of hours and I come up with nothing.

How close are you allowed to park to the curb cut of someone's driveway?

I ask because someone on my street keeps parking in a way that slightly overhangs my driveway. I'm no stickler but our driveway is really narrow and it's got a big tree on one edge so it's difficult enough getting out without this car making it harder.

I thought it was a couple of feet. I can't find any citation of this anywhere online. I'd like to find the citation because I'd like to leave a polite note asking this person to stop overhanging my driveway and attach the bit of parking law that's relevant.

Thanks for any help you've got.
