car crash on kidder ave, between pearson ave and highland street.

a half hour ago, at one-thirty a.m., my girlfriend and i were awakened by a giant smash and someone yelling "get on the ground!" and "don't move your hands!"

seconds later, sirens of all kinds were heard through the neighborhood, coming to a point a few houses down from where we live, on kidder ave. i was too curious not to investigate, as i saw from the window a crowd forming of sleepy, startled people from the neighborhood.

i quickly dressed and went outside, to find one person face down on the ground, handcuffed, next to a smoking SUV. on the other side, another person sat quietly. a few yards away, another car sat next to a tree, and i could make out firemen pulling something out of it. shattered glass and some sort of liquid coated the pavement between them.

pretty startling to wake up to. i thought it was a shooting.


anyone know what really happened?

New Art Exhibit at Magpie

We are starting a new art exhibit Magpie today called "Modern Ornithology" featuring one of our favorite artists, Ryan O'Rourke. Ryan's grandfather builds birdhouses and Ryan paints them. They are too beautiful for words to describe! If you come from 2:00 - 5:00 today you can grab some snackage and meet the artist.

Bedding Help

So I got a really nice Queen bed from some moving friends, my bed was 10 years old. I ran into the standard somerville problem of the box spring not fitting. Anyone have a recommendation of platform bed vs. box spring? Additionally, split box springs seem to be very expensive...100 a piece plus delivery, any suggestions of a cheaper place? Any suggestions on where to get a fairly cheap platform bed? Ikea is my only thought right now. I need to figure out if platform or split box spring is the better use of my money. Help!
