This Saturday, June 23, I'm co-leading a Bicycle Tour of Historic Somerville and Medford, sponsored by the Somerville Bicycle Committee and the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission.

The ride starts at 10 am in the parking lot of Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue (just east of School Street). We'll ride for about 10 miles, and we should be finished around 1 pm.

We'll visit historic sites throughout Somerville and Medford, including the Old Powder House, the Isaac Royall House, and the armories and historical museums of both cities.

For more information, e-mail me at rnewman@theCIA.net. Or just post a comment here, and I'll reply.

(This ride was originally scheduled for the weekend of May 19-20, but was rained out both days. We aren't setting another rain date this time. We will go ahead with the ride on June 23 unless there is steady, heavy rain.)

Several months ago I was asking in here for salons that people would advise, and ended up going to Salon Luna. Now, while they did an awesome red for my color, the first cut I had there was ...okay, but not anything special. The second time....well, I don't recommend Diana (I think it was Diana). I had a picture, told her what I wanted, and have abut three inches LESS hair than I asked for in something that, while it looks good, is not remotely what I wanted or showed her.

So I'm in the market for another new hair salon. My hair is now far shorter than I want it, so if anyone has recommendations for a place/person that is also good at helping hair grow out gracefully, I'd love to hear about it/them! In general, looking for someplace that's nearby (I do have a car though), not overpriced, does great color (red, specifically), and people who will LISTEN.

Slightly more specfically, Salonika just moved in down the block from me. I can't find many reviews online about them, so does anyone have one they can offer on that place?

Room available in a 5 bedroom apartment near Davis Sq. Rent is $450 per month plus utilities (Summer is approximately $50 a month, winter can get up around $75-100).

Great location: We are 15 min from Davis square on foot and 7 min from Teele square. We are 1-2 blocks away from a supermarket, a Laundromat, and several bus routes. We have lots of storage space in an attic and a basement and off street parking in a driveway. We have a small backyard that we share with our downstairs neighbors (a nice quiet family) and a deck in the front that is great for relaxing when the weather is nice. The landlord is very nice, responsive if there are things that need fixing, and otherwise leaves us to our own devices.

We all tend to get along well together as a group and work well together as well. We've divided up chores for the group and try to keep the common areas pretty clean. We range in age from 24 to 33 and have a pretty even mix of the sexes. We've got some grad students, and some professionals out in the work world. None of us smoke. We have a few parties a year and then random social gatherings. We’re pretty laid back and quiet as a house, but also pretty social (hanging out in the kitchen, going out together from time to time when time permits) although participation in social stuff is up to you.

Hmmm... what else to say? You won't have to bring a lot of kitchen stuff because we have a lot of that already. We also have some extra furniture.

Because we want to maintain the good dynamic that we already have in the house, we prefer people who are able to come and meet all of us.

There is first months rent and a deposit.

Available August 1st.
