In my half-awakened state, I clicked on the Davis Square page this morning and was like, "Huh? I must have the wrong page." But no! Behold a new, clean, and more useful page! Great job to Pheromone who I assume made the changes. It looks really great.

Did anyone else find the "HONK TO IMPEACH" plackard-carriers in the Square yesterday afternoon irritating?

I'm all for freedom of speech, I'm all for expressing your opinion in public space, and believe me, I loathe the current administration. But can't you express your opinion without all the noise pollution within earshot of my house?

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man, but in my day, we walked uphill both ways in the snow to impeach somebody! There was none of this hoity-toity honk-your-horn-inside-your-fancy-automobile nonsense!

and a response from the city! )

Over the past few years, I recall numerous Davis Square Task Force meetings about the new One Davis Square. The developer, city officials, and the assembled citizens discussed the building's height, the front facade, the windows, the CVS, the gym, the lack of parking .... everything except the rear wall.

Somehow I assumed that the red brick on the front and sides would carry over to the back. Probably everyone else thought that, too. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The back wall is totally blank and windowless, and appears to be made of white cinderblock.

This summer I've been making a beginner's effort at growing wildflowers from seed in my tiny front yard. We used to have the ugliest yard on the street, but the rugged little wildflowers are improving it. I put down a Northeastern seed mixture that I bought online of about 30 different wildflower species, and so far 6 varieties have bloomed. I've been able to identify all of them except this one:

Does anyone know what it is? This individual one is silver dollar sized, but there are others of it's kind that are smaller, or less ornate with the red. They're on fuzzy, sturdy stalks, and grow low to the ground. It's lovely, but I've found nothing online to match it up to.

Thanks for any help!

Fire?

Hi, I smelled first what smelled like burning plastic, and then just 'fire' in my apartment tonight. I freaked out a bit thinking maybe it was some of my electronic equipment, but then I took a whiff of the air coming in the window and it seemed to be coming from outside. I took a walk down Morrison from College and saw some smoke and it smelled like fire outside, too. Anybody know if there was one? The smoke looked like it was coming from the direction of Ball Square.
