This community wastes a lot of time yelling at each other about posts that need an lj-cut.  Is it possible to avoid this problem by automatically inserting an lj-cut on all new posts longer than a certain length, or even all new posts period?  We could then get back to the more important business of yelling at each other for legitimate reasons, like whose burritos are better.

Hey everyone,

I've been in contact with some nice people from the Burren and everything is all set for our LJ casual meet-up. There is no cover on Wednesday and the back room will be open at 7pm. There might also be some free appetizers for us. Therefore, please drink up and tip your bartenders!

I can bring name-tags if people want to write their LJ names, but its not required that people "out" themselves. I already meet several of you in real life and I'm looking forward to meeting some more people.

If you voted "maybe" but are now more certain - either yes or no - please let me know in the comments.

See you next Wednesday!

The next meeting of the DorkbotBoston group will be Thursday, January 17th at 7:00pm at:

Willoughby and Baltic
195g Elm Street
Davis Square (next to Subway Sandwiches and Joey's "happy in, happy out" restaurant) psst, look down the alley.

If you are an artist who is interested in working with electricity, or a hobbyist who dabbles with electronics, or even a professional who likes to hang out with others doing "strange things with electricity", this group is for you.

All meetings are free and open to the public. We love seeing new faces.

BYOB.

There's a note in the window of the old law firm near Deli-icious saying there is a new store coming soon. I think it's called Artfaktori and they'll be selling "antique art".

Just wondering if anyone in the area has a pasta roller/machine that they just haven't used as much as they'd hoped, and now it's collecting dust in a corner, and they'd like to give it a good home.

That would be my home, by the way.  :)

Not looking for anything fancy, though that would be ok, too.  A simple, hand-cranked doohicky will do the trick.

Thanks.
And remember:  Wednesday night is Prince Spaghetti Night!

The Somerville Chamber of Commerce is holding a benefit tomorrow (Thursday, 1/17) for the children and teachers of the East Somerville Community School, which burned down last month.

The event is from 6 to 9 pm at the Holiday Inn, 30 Washington Street (at Inner Belt Road, near Sullivan Square). Suggested donation is $25, but please give more if you can afford it. There will be a free appetizer buffet, and live entertainment by bands called 'Elated' and 'Blues States'.

If you can't come to the event but would like to contribute, bring a check payable to "Somerville Public Schools" to any branch of Winter Hill Bank. A donation of $550 will provide school supplies for an entire class.

Yes, this is in East Somerville, but children from every ward attend this school -- especially the two-way bilingual Unidos program.

A letter from the Somerville School Committee.
