A few days ago, I went to an event that took place in the Ball Square Bowling Alley. Apparently it can be rented out--the guy who organized the event said that when he was a kid, he rented it every year for his birthday parties.

There wasn't much of anything exciting to observe, but I took some pictures for those who are curious.

I know having a gas grill, or worse a charcoal grill, on a porch is unsafe, and I assume illegal. I've see George Foreman indoor/outdoor grills advertised as being safe where other grills are not. Does anyone know if this is true for the ubiquitous triple decker porches that are around these parts (trying to make the relevance to this community clear).

I'm moving tomorrow, and it seems a shame to throw out the bazillion or so cardboard boxes I've collected, so they're free to anyone who wants them. They should all be empty by Sunday night, let me know if you want them. I live right outside Davis Sq.

My apartment isn't getting any larger, but the number of books I own is, and I'm fast reaching a critical mass.

I have several sociology books, especially books dealing with social theory that I could probably pass along. If you are a sociologist or sociology grad student, you might find them useful. Also, if you just happen to filled with joy reading classical social theory and ethnomethodology (like me) you might enjoy them. I probably could give away 20-25 books.

If you want them, let me know. I'm going to be out of town the week of June 7th, but you can either come by some evening this week or when I get back to town.

Hey y'all, I've finally consented to learn to drive my boyfriend's terrifyingly expensive stick-shift car, and so we're looking for big, empty parking lots where I can drive around and screw up a lot without having to worry about other cars.  Suggestions?

Hi --

Can anyone recommend someone in the Cambridge/Somerville area to make a dress on short notice? I have the pattern, the fabric, and the miscellaneous bits (thread and such), but am short on time and my sewing machine is being cranky. I need the dress by June 11 for a June 14 event. It's a pretty straightforward pattern (Simplicity 2917, if you want to look it up), but I want it to look good -- it's for a wedding. Will pay, of course.

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

Does anybody know why the Somerville Theater is showing "Sex and the City" on every screen but the main? I ask because that's pretty unusual for ANY movie theater, let alone a indie one. Two screens wouldn't surprise me at all, but ALL FOUR? That's pretty unusual and I'm wondering if it's voluntary, part of a charity event I hadn't heard about that isn't on their website, or what.
