Woodwork assistance

OK, anybody even partially skilled in DIY will laugh at this post.  I bought a couple of trestles from IKEA to build a desk and I need to shorten the legs by 3-4 inches...  I recently moved here and don't own any tools, and even if I did I wouldn't want to do this work myself because a wonky tabletop is perhaps the most annoying thing in the world...

So... does anybody know of a woodworking shop that would be able to help me shorten these legs by way of a table saw or something similar?

We at the Somerville Journal have been trying to kick the tires of our commenting system at www.wickedlocal.com/somerville/

As you may know, we had to shut down the comments because they were out of control. Now we’ve put up a system where you register your email in order to comment.

The benefit is, if someone is out of control, I can ban you, and the rest of us can have a conversation by commenting on stories. The bad news is, a number of folks have not commented since we put the new system in place.

You’re logged in here already – so I’m guessing logging into a website isn’t a problem for you. Can you log into Wicked Local Somerville without a problem? Is logging in to comment at a newspaper too much? Is there just nothing to comment on lately?

Update on ticket for obstructing sweeping on day with no scheduled sweeping

So, I posted last month about getting a ticket on Thorndike Street for blocking street sweeping on a day when there is no posted sweeping on the street.

Happy to say that, due to informational inquiries by Tom and Rebekah, the issue reached someone with the power, ability and inclination to identify the ticket as wrongly issued and dismiss it, even after the appeal failed.

Thanks for the various suggestions and ideas posted in the original comment thread (and to Tom, for taking an interest). :)

My research prior to the dismissal led me to discover that if you think an appeal has been decided wrongly, your only official choice is to file in the Superior Court in Lowell ($240 filing fee). So I'm doubly grateful.

Driveway Repair Recommendations?

I checked through the "home repair" entries and didn't see any recommendations for this. We need a sinkhole in our blacktop driveway repaired, and I wondered if anyone had had this kind of work done recently by a company they'd recommend?

Thanks so much! (I shouldn't worry about the little voices singing "Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fthagn!" that come out of the sinkhole every now and then, should I?)
