it's porter, but it's close enough to davis --

http://www.wickedlocal.com/cambridge/news/x2138482128/Japanese-market-owner-Lesley-forced-us-out-of-Cambridge

this is terrible news!
i thought i would just give a heads-up to people here who might not have heard. i frequent kotobukiya about once a month and really can't imagine porter without it.

the article mentions they might be relocating to medford. i guess it beats being completely closed down, but it seems awfully far.

[edit] is there anything we can effectively *DO* about this to make our displeasure known? contact lesley? rally to kotobukiya?

[edit2] if you would like to contact lesley to let them know how you feel about them giving kotobukiya the boot, here is their office of public affairs: http://www.lesley.edu/public_affairs/index.html

Has anyone noticed that virtually ALL Somerville News polls end up with the "YES" response winning? Often in a landslide. This is the case, even when the question is really loaded toward a "NO" response (often). What gives? Not that I think those polls are worth anything, but someone else might.

Anyone know how to read the new water meters the city is requiring?

Our household just got the new meter (after a series of increasingly aggravating postcards came our way, insisting we get it taken care RIGHT NOW OMG IT IS !!!URGENT!!!), and there's nothing on the damn thing that displays how much water has actually been used (the old one did). You'd think that given the city's fairly recent history of inaccurate water meter billing, they'd make it easy for people to tell when they were being billed incorrectly.

According to the city's website, "The state-of-the-art water meters will allow for more accurate billing and easy water usage monitoring by both the City and property owners." But, um, that suggests there's actually a display ON THE METER, right?
