Somerville Local First is planning a holiday campaign to encourage residents and community members to buy local for the holiday season.

What type of events and campaign elements would encourage and enable you to buy more from local businesses this holiday season?

We'd love your thoughts and feedback as we construct the campaign.

Thanks,
Somerville Local First

This is just a reminder that we are having our next meetup tomorrow (Thursday the 15th)at Joe Sent Me in North Cambridge. This is a 5-10 minute walk from Davis Square at 2388 Mass Ave. To get there, walk down the bike path that is located behind the movie theatre and follow that down to Cameron Ave and make a left. Mass Ave intersects close to there and you will see the bar on the opposite side of the street. We will start at 7pm, but come by whenever you can. Not that you needed any more incentive to go, but they are giving us free food (which I'll make sure includes some fried pickles).

Also, we are on for the brunch meetup on Saturday the 24th. We will be meeting outside of Johnny D's at 1pm. Depending on the turnout and how busy the restaurant is, we might have to split up into separate tables. Please be there 5 minutes early because right at 1pm is when we will do a head count and put our name in.

I saw a banner this morning in Teele Square advertising the First Annual "Teele Square Fall Fest" Sunday, October 18 from 12 to 4 p.m. I had no idea what it was about, and my internet research didn't yield much, but it looks like "Teele Square will be shut down for the day to traffic while the restaurants take their menus to the streets, almost like and old fashion block party".

A reminder that I'll be leading the the Somerville Bicycle Committee's 17th annual fall Tour de Somerville this Saturday, October 17. Our theme this year is "Somerville: City of Seven (Or More) Hills".

We'll meet at 10 am at Seven Hills Park (behind the Holland Street T entrance in Davis Square), leaving promptly at 10:15. If it rains steadily on Saturday, we'll try again on Sunday, same time and location.

The 11-mile ride will visit each of Somerville's hills, both those that still exist and those that have been removed. Riders should wear helmets and be prepared for hill climbs and descents.

The Somerville Police will escort the ride on bicycles, and Redbones will provide refreshments at the halfway point.

For more info (and a list of hills), visit http://somervillebikes.org/events.html .
A route map is at http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/312795 , and a cue sheet at http://www.bikely.com/cuesheet/route/312795 .
