[excerpt] Patrolman John Thermidor reported at least 25-30 teenagers in the apartment, as well as people on the stairs leading up to the second floor. He asked to talk to an adult, but there was no response from anyone.

A few minutes later, a man came down from the second floor and identified himself as Jonathan Monsarrat, 41, the resident and host of the party, according to the report. Thermidor told him to inform his guests that the party was over and they have to leave, but Monsarrat allegedly became argumentative and refused to comply. He assured Thermidor that there was no alcohol at the party. According to the report, the officer informed him that he had seen teenagers with beer bottles.[/excerpt]

I have lived here for two years and have always wondered, what is that brick monstrosity abutting Willow Avenue and Whipple Street, across from Charles Rose Architects and next to the bikepath?

It appears to be some kind of telecom building?  It is a total eyesore and a complete waste of prime real estate.  Whoever owns it is dropping the ball bigtime.  Is Wonka in there making chocolate or what?

On the front page of yesterday's Globe sports section: Kwan puts skating career on ice.

It's mostly about her being a graduate student at Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. I'm linking to it here because it

(a) has a big photo of her standing in front of the Somerville Theatre

(b) starts with: "She will be walking through Davis Square at lunchtime, having dinner in the North End, or sitting courtside at a Celtics game and she’ll see the heads turning."

(c) ends with a mention of her "dropp[ing] by the Diesel Café on Elm Street for a salad and a latte"

I had my first encounter with the Yelling Guy last night, crossing through Powderhouse Park. Someone had warned me about him by name sometime recently, but I couldn't remember it, though now I see from previous comm posts (thank you, tag "local characters"!) that it is Mike.

I didn't see or hear him until I rounded the corner on the path and came up behind him. He turned around, saw me, and that's when the yelling started. Mostly alternating sequences of "Get [the fuck] outta here!", mumble mumble, "... Whore!"

(Maybe it was the motorcycle jacket.)

... I understand that he's sometimes been physically aggressive with passersby, but in a sad way I got almost the opposite vibe: like I could walk right through where he was standing. Like there was no substance to him, no resistance, no personality, only a rogue burst of discorporated sound and fury fading into the night. Is this what it's like to see ghosts?

His nose was running. I felt sad. I passed him and walked on.

I will have to try addressing him by name next time. I hear that gives the user power over angry spirits.
