Two-fold housing post here, I talked with some of you about it at bowling (which was much fun!!) last weekend.
I'm seeking one person to take the place of my roomies who are breaking the lease since they found a place early ($560 in Camberville for March 1), and also I'd rather move on myself so I'm looking for a place with similar stats to what I've got now for May 31 or even a little earlier. There will be two cats already, sorry no doggies allowed at my current place.

Sadly I'm considering trying someplace closer to downtown than Davis, but I do love it here so I'll probably end up staying close. Anything within 15 min walking along the Red line is good for me as long as it has parking and allows a fluffcat! Comment or PM in either case if you know of someone seeking Now or have a place opening later this spring :)

Spread the word!

Boston Globe correspondent Danielle Dreilinger came to our Ball Square Bowling meetup last Saturday and has now published an article about the meetup and the alley:

The bowling alley you never knew. The article says that Green Line construction may threaten the bowling alley with demolition.

There's also an accompanying photo slideshow by Rob Vassegh: A night at the alley, including cool photos of the pin-setting machinery as well as our always photogenic [livejournal.com profile] hahathor.

I don't know whether the article will appear in print as well.

Hey all. I know I don't post or comment much, but I do read, and I'm coming to y'all for help.

I grew up in Davis Sq., and until recently, my mom lived in the house we bought in 1967. She's now in a retirement home and the care and maintenence of the house is my responsibility. Which is OK with me, since I've been wanting to update the house for years...

Anyway, I'm asking for help on any recomendations for contractors. There is some MAJOR work to be done there, since there hasn't been much work done there lately, and the little work done, has been patchwork, IMO.

Ideally, I would like a contractor that would oversea plumbing, electrical work, complete overhaul of a heating system (installing two new ones, and removing the old ASBESTOS boiler from c. before dirt.) and general construction.

I realize this is not a small job, but I'm clueless as to who to turn to, and figured you guys would know/have some rec's. It's better than me going in blindly.

Any help much appreciated.
