Does anyone know what is going on with what smells like a major natural gas leak in Somerville this morning?

The smell is very noticeable outdoors in the "Patch" neighborhood (MaxPack to Cedar street) and when we called it in, there apparently had been a number of other calls already, with the Fire Department heading out in force to the DPW yard.

An hour later we can still hear sirens going north of here, businesses are responding (it looked like the Royal White laundry had gotten everyone out of their building and had an NSTAR truck out front), and the air is still thick with the smell outside.

Winds are from the north, so I'm suspecting something up that way.

Although I'm on the do not call registry, I keep getting calls. At times, on my cell. The bizarre thing is that, the few times when I pick up, nobody answers, they just hang up. I don't get the logic of this. Why would a company pay money to call somebody just to hang up? Anyone in the neighborhood having the same problem? Are they (I don't know who "they" refers to) just trying random numbers?

Dear Davis Sq. Community,

I must leave Davis Square to accept a job offer. I promised my landlord that I would help him find someone to take the apartment, as they have been a good management company. I am breaking my lease, so this would be an apartment for lease (not a sublet). The lease would start on May 1, although you could move in as early as about April 20, and run to August 31, when you could renew. They just like to keep all the leases beginning and ending on the same day.

This is a great building. It is a brick low-rise apartment in the Porter Sq. Spring Hill neighborhood. The carpet is brand new and wall-to-wall. The appliances are modern, and it comes with A/C and a dishwasher and garbage disposal. The view of the Boston skyline is magnificent, and there is a roof deck and a common back patio for BBQs. There is a pot shelf balcony. The unit is about 800sf total (I measured), and one bedroom is larger than the other. The unit comes with one off-street parking space. A covered space is $25/mo. extra. Coin-op laundry is in the unit. There are storage lockers, and bike rooms inside and outside. Heat and hot water is included, and you can control the temperature in each room independently. Rent is $1700, but I think you could talk that down for the remaining term (it would return to $1700 if you renewed). Sorry, no pets.
