Last night my partner came to Davis around 8pm for a Johnny D's show. She went to the Buena Vista lot, noted that the Business Permit spaces said that they were restricted until 5pm weekdays (as they said before the recent changes), so parked in one. Came back to find a $50 ticket dated 9:01pm for "Code 93: Permit Parking - no business sticker".

I've looked at the new parking regulations online, and all I can find about this is:

Section 15-2.2 Business Permit Parking
All Business Permit Spaces in the Davis Sq and Magoun Sq Municipal Parking Lots will revert to
metered spaces Monday through Friday 5pm-10pm and Saturday 8am to 10pm.

She says that there were no meters on the business permit spaces.

Can anyone explain what the *real* rules are for those spaces now? Thanks.

[Next night edit: on further questioning, my partner said tonight that she did see the sign - that was on an unlit wall - said "8:30am-3:30" but didn't see, or imagine it might be, 3:30AM]

From Pizzeria Posto's Facebook Wall:

"Permits are done and we are opening Thursday from 5-10pm. Come say hi!"

Pizzeria Posto is located at 187 Elm Street, the former location of Carberry's, O'Natural's, Boloco, and Green Tomato. See earlier discussion.

Hi everyone! Best Bees Company is a new service in the greater Boston and Cape Cod area that provides and manages honey bee hives for gardeners and property owners in urban, suburban, and rural habitats. As pollinators, honey bees improve the yield and quality of a huge number of fruit and vegetable crops. The local honey and beeswax are added perks! We don't use any chemicals and so practice a form of organic farming. A major portion of the proceeds goes to funding research and development of technologies improving honey bee health. If you would like a honey bee hive of your own, please shoot an email to noah@bestbees.com for more info!

You know me, I keep it short. It's a good place, huge amounts of space, my roommates are great people (and also on this comm), in short, it's a deal. I've lived here two years and loved every minute, and I'll be sad to leave.

I have long wanted to try some urban bucket farming, but my only available space for it (my back balcony) may not be optimal; hence I ask you, my neighbors. In spring and summer the balcony gets about 4 hours of strong direct sunlight in the afternoon, but is in the shadow of the house for the other hours of daylight. Are there any veggies that can thrive in part-time sun like that?

Total noob at this, obviously.

If you've been in S'ville for a few years, you're probably already familiar with the annual Somerville Open Studios. If you're new in town, you're in for a treat!

Right now we NEED YOUR HELP getting the word out, inside and outside of Somerville, so people from surrounding towns will come and visit local artist in their studios (and maybe even buy work?!). A lot of people here could help with a small individual effort that would add up to making a *huge* difference.

Here's the deal: Over 350 Somerville Artists are participating in Somerville Open Studios this year. We have published 20,000 map-booklets that show the locations of all of the participating artist-studios across the city, and the route of the free-trolley that will run that weekend. We'll print a couple thousand flyers to go up in windows around the city and surrounding communities. Artists will be going out daily and filling the map-book-stands that you will see soon near the T-stops, bike-path, and major intersections-- BUT WE NEED MORE HANDS.

If you work or go to school or live in an area that you think might be a good place to promote SOS, you could help by simply taping a few flyers up, and bringing a stack of maps with you and putting them in a publicly-accessible area during the next three weeks. Cafes, shops, movie-theaters, libraries, hotel or B&B lobbies? Any place might do. Think about your daily commutes or the places you frequent during the week. Where do people who might be interested in local art frequent? Ask the owners/managers First. Can I put these map-books here to promote this volunteer local-artist event? Can I tape a flyer in your window? If every person on the davis square LJ list hit two locations we wouldn't otherwise hit? Actually I have no idea how many places that would be... but it would be AWESOME!

If you can help, if you find a good place or two to post a flyer and place maps, please drop an email to Jon Rich at maps@somervilleopenstudios.org. Tell him where you are thinking would be convenient to cover, and he'll hook you up with the materials (he lives near Davis and has them on his back-porch near the bike-path). Mention this posting on the Davis-Square LJ.

Thanks everyone for helping with New England's Largest Open Studios Event!

I'll be out of town for two weeks, and need to have my car moved at least one time to avoid a street sweeping ticket.

311 suggested having a friend move it, or contesting the ticket with proof that I was out of town.

If possible, I'd like to avoid either option, and just dump my car somewhere that costs much less than a 50$ ticket to guarantee a citation-free return.

Obvious choices are 'bribe a friend with a driveway' or 'find a T-accessible town without permit parking' or 'somehow camouflage the car to look like a dumpster', but I'd like to expand my list.

Suggestions kindly accepted. Offers of a driveway spot for April 11-23 would be loved.
