community programs @ sprout
sprout is an educational nonprofit focused on community-driven science. We're located right outside Davis Square on Summer St.
At
sprout, we want people's relationships to science to be as flexible and personal as their relationships to music, and to promote these types of relationships we are starting our first set of educational programs. They vary in terms of age, duration, price, tone, and topic. There are offerings including ::
- lockpicking :: everything from the basics of how locks work and how to compromise them to high security attacks and forensic locksmithing
- flute acoustics :: explore how flutes are made, and how their design controls what sorts of sounds they can make
- creative math :: exploring mathematical concepts through puzzles and games
- computational design ::a project-driven survey of techniques in computational design
- welding :: explore the basics of welding as they design, build, and powdercoat their own bike trailer
- street theater :: a drop-in street theater troupe whose goal is to create fun, engaging street performances which illuminate some scientific topic or aspect of scientific culture
- ecomodding your home build and use a powerstrip that enables you to see how & when your appliances use electricity and ensure they only use electricity when you want them to
