So, thanks, Davis and surrounding neighborhoods for not feeling the need to put traffic cones or remnants of your kitchen furniture out on the street after shoveling yerself out.

I work in Southie and a coworker was baffled tonight as we were locking up the store.
"Don't they put cones out in Somerville?"
"No. The streets are public roads."
"No one takes your spot?"
"It's not 'my' spot. I shovel, everyone else shovels; if there's another car where I shovelled when I return, I find a new spot. We all shovel and we all park. It all works out."

She was baffled.

Thank you for civility.

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a lot of snow out there?

Hello, this is Michael Meehan from the City of Somerville, informing you that the current citywide snow emergency will remain in effect until further notice. Cars parked in designated municipal and school lots may remain there overnight and street parking should take place only on the odd-numbered side of the street to allow access for snow plows and public safety vehicles. Improperly parked cars will be ticketed and towed.

Trash collection will continue as normal on Thursday, however Christmas Tree collection will be suspended until Friday. City Hall offices will be open Thursday.

Property owners are also reminded that, per City ordinance, you may NOT shovel snow into the streets, and all sidewalks must be shoveled, salted or sanded by six hours following the end of a storm. Properties with unshoveled sidewalks will be subject to fines by the City's Inspectional Services Division. Thank you for your cooperation.

I have a houseguest, and we were supposed to go out to dinner tonight, which has been foiled by snow. So, we figured we'd walk somewhere to sit in or take out. But every place I've tried so far has failed to answer their phone (Namaskar, Pinis, Pescatore). Does anybody know any places that are open? (Prefer the Ball Square side of town, but post whatever you know!)

So AJWright near Union Square is leaving.  Who will take their place?    I'm going to start fantasizing that Trader Joe's will move in.  It does seem to be the right size for them, and we know (I know from old postings in this forum) that they only want locations with parking (Back Bay location being an exception).  Seems like the demographic, closeness to major modes of travel would be hospitable.
