Volunteers needed for breast cancer study

A researcher at Tufts is looking for women in particular age groups to compare their breast tissue in order to try and figure out why giving birth and breastfeeding lower the risk of breast cancer. They need both women who have given birth and those who have not.

(Somerville) Snow emergency ends at 6 pm -- move cars by 8 pm

Hello, this is Jackie Rossetti from the City of Somerville with snow emergency information for Thursday, January 13th. The City will lift its snow emergency regulations effective at 6:00 p.m. this evening. Residents who had parked in municipal or school lots during the snow emergency must move their cars by 8:00 p.m. Cars still parked in city lots at that time may be subject to ticketing and towing.

Residents are reminded that furniture, barrels, or other items left in parking spots will be treated as trash and disposed of. Sidewalks and walkways must be shoveled today, or property owners may be subject to fines, in accordance with City ordinance.

Sand for Sidewalks?

 My neighbor said that Somerville provides free sand for sidewalks.  I know I've seen the big blue barrels of them in Central Square.  However, I don't know where to find ones near Davis.  

Anyone know where the sand barrels are?

Workout buddy

Hey all!
So, my doc said today that I need to lose about 30 lbs (ughhh). I have a membership at BSC but it's the whole "getting out of the house and to the gym" thing that really gets me. So I'm turning to you all... who wants to be my workout buddy? It might require a little nagging in the beginning (aka, get your fat ass to the gym!) but I think knowing I have to be meeting someone will be a big motivator.

We don't have to actually exercise together, unless someone wants to do a class with me. I'd be game for that, too!

Snow Art Flash Mob in Union Sq, Saturday afternoon

We want you and all your friends to come make epic snow art in Union Square this Saturday, starting at 1 PM!

Artisan's Asylum, in coordination with the Somerville Art Council's ArtsUnion Winter Series, is happy to announce that this Saturday will be a day of hilarious public snow art. The city will be providing a giant pile of snow (courtesy of the snow storm on Wednesday) and a bunch of shovels, and Cantina La Mexicana will be providing Mexican hot chocolate! All we have to do is make big displays of public art around the square. No problem, right?

Grab your gloves and jackets and come help us build snow forts, scenes from Calvin & Hobbes, elaborate snow sculpture and anything else you can imagine! Even if you don't have an idea for an art piece, come by anyway and help us lug massive amounts of snow around the square. If you want to bring stuff, bring shovels, trowels, buckets, and any other snow-shaping tools you can imagine.
