As we did last year at this time, we are again counting on your generosity to help students at Breakthrough Cambridge. This organization is a tuition-free, academically intensive, college-preparatory program for motivated, low-income students in the Cambridge Public Schools. Students this summer will be reading A Raisin in the Sun. They need 55 copies and that is where we come in. We are offering a 20% discount on the title which is only $7.00. You buy the book for roughly $5.74, drop it in our collection/donation box, and walk away with a very satisfying feeling of well being. You have done good. (And yes, for all of you frustrated copy editors out there, I know this is not proper grammar.)
So sometime between Monday, May 9 and June 22 please stop by and help us make that goal. As always, we thank you very much.

The theme this month is brains, with performances including a puppet show called Baby Zombie, EEG displays, turing machines, and more!

ron_newmanPemberton Market, the liquor and convenience store at 2245 Mass. Ave., will close on May 31 and will merge into Pemberton Farms, the grocery and garden center next door at 2225 Mass. Ave.
Nobody at either store yet knows exactly how this is going to work, or whether Pemberton Farms will have longer hours after the merger. Currently Pemberton Farms closes at 9 pm Monday-Friday and 8 pm Saturday and Sunday, while Pemberton Market stays open until 11 pm.
Old-timers will remember that 2245 Mass. Ave. used to house the 24-hour "Bread & Butter Konvenience [sic]" store, and before that, a 24-hour White Hen Pantry. I'd love to see another 24-hour convenience store move in.
Kate Mattes of Kate's Mystery Books had blocked the sale of liquor at Pemberton Farms, but she has moved out and sold her house to someone else who doesn't object to the liquor license.
