Please come to the Tuesday City Council meeting (7PM) in support of them approving a bond that would allow the high school to replace the Very Old science labs.

Dear HONK! fans-

HONK! is quickly approaching, bands have their plane tickets, venues are getting set and the only thing missing is you and your friends to help pull this off. Below find a smattering of opportunities that need your touch. Look it over and then contact participate@honkfest.org. and let us know what you want to do.

Honk! in the neighborhoods 3PM to 5 PM [7 people] Friday Oct 5th:
Help get bands to and from their venues in the Boston, Somerville and Cambridge area.

Helping with Friday night dinner [7 people] 4PM to 7 PM Friday Oct 5th:
The amazing Bonnie will lead the effort to feed over 600 musicians. Come slice, dice, chop and stir in the presence of some pretty entertaining company. Once the food is made we need help bringing it from The First Church of Somerville to Tufts Administration Building (TAB) and then serving the food and cleaning up the TAB [7 people] from 7PM to 10 PM.

Lighting: [8 people] Saturday Oct 6th:
If there are 5 sites to light (7 Hills Park, Statue Park, Kenney Park, Winter St. Behind Connolly's insurance) we could use 4 teams of 2 people each. Winter St and behind Connolly's are pretty simple, one team could do both. It would be great if the lighting is up by noon. Those putting up lighting could meet at Statue Park and finish that job, since the Merchandise booths and the Info booth also need to be lit. Around 9 PM those teams would come back take down the lights, pack 'em up and stash them. Then head to the Saturday night party.

Hat Passers and Wranglers: [36 different slots to fill] 12:15 PM to 9 PM Saturday 10/6 [8 different slots] 2 PM to 6PM Sunday 10/7:
This is a huge job and we need a big crew. People usually do 2 hour shifts, but you are right where the bands are, you can listen to the music, dance and pass a bucket, so for the right people it is not an onerous task. On Saturday Oct 5th there are 9 venues in Davis Square and on Sunday Oct 6th, 4 venues in Harvard Square.

Merchandise [15] on Saturday Noon til 9 PM and [9] on Sunday 1PM to 6PM:
Selling T-shirts and CD’s in a tent right in the midst of the festival. We need help setting up for the festival on Saturday in Davis Square 9 AM til Noon and taking it down 9PM til done. Sunday Oct 7th 1 PM to 6PM in Harvard Square, we get to do it all again, setup around 11 AM, breakdown 5:30 to 6:30 PM.

Shuttle Van Driving Saturday Oct 6th 8 PM until Sunday morning Oct 7th, 2 AM [ 9 drivers]:
You get to drive a 15 passenger van full of HONK! musicians back and forth from the Dilboy in Davis Square to the Saturday night party. Usually a 2 hour slot is a pretty good time.

Sunday Oct 7th Parade Marshals [20 people] 10:30 AM til 2 PM:
There is a Marshal meeting at Sprout (339R Summer St.
Somerville, MA 02144) Oct 1st at 7PM. Marshals will help the pace of the parade down Mass Ave.

Sunday night Oct 7th 7:30 PM to Midnight Blow Out Concert [7 band wranglers, 10 ushers]:
Come help keep things running smoothly.

Monday, October 8th Sweeping up, the Tufts Administration Building and the Dilboy:
This should occur maybe on Monday Oct 8th [3 people]

Many thanks for considering volunteering for HONK!. We couldn't do it without you!

Don't forget to come by the Davis square flea market today. 10am to 4 pm in the parking lot at the corner of Holland St. and Buena Vista.

Lots of great stuff this week.

This is our last weekend this season so we are doing 25% off anything over $10.

Stop by Perry Park today from 2-5 pm for our next Knit & Sip Crochet Soiree. There will some light snacks, and great company. Check out the yarnstorm installation, and help us get ready for the Wrap Around sale in November.

About Knit & Sip Crochet Soirees

Each November, the Nave Gallery hosts Wrap Around, a sale of affordable handmade goods. All proceeds help fund the amazing work of the Somerville Homeless Coalition, and anything not sold is donated to them.

Join our monthly meetup, and knit, crochet, and create items for this November's sale. This is a really fun way to get your craft on and help keep someone warm during our very cold winters.

To keep up to date on events, join the meetup group at: http://www.meetup.com/Knit-Sip-Crochet-Soirees/.

Does anyone out there know why some of the sidewalk on this section of Liberty has been torn up, and why parking is restricted on both sides? I am so worried that the city is about to take down one of our beautiful trees!
