Join the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and the Somerville Bicycle Committee for a fun bike ride exploring Somerville's new "green" initiatives with the theme "Food, Flowers, and Farming: All Flourishing Anew in Somerville". The ride begins at 2 pm this Sunday, June 28, at Somerville City Hall.

The ride is geared for all ages and riding levels, and it will be escorted by the Somerville Police. There will be a few rest stops as well.

A $3.00 Donation is appreciated, and refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the ride at Aeronaut Brewery!

(This ride was originally scheduled for May 31, but was rained out. Let's hope for better weather this time! If we get rained out again, this will probably become our fall Tour de Somerville in September or October.)

For those of you who like Facebook events, here's ours. And here's a map of our route.

Boston Eater.com reports that a Simon's coffee shop may be replacing the closed Kindred Tea & Tonic, next to Johnny D's.

(Kindred is the most perplexing business failure I've ever seen in Davis Square. After two and a half years of planning and construction, it sort of opened last December, only to close less than four months later.)

From Mon., June 29 through Thurs. morning, July 2, a production crew will be filming scenes for an upcoming movie in the Magoun Sq. area. For this work, parking restrictions will apply on Broadway between Medford St. and Cedar St., and you may notice large trucks and other vehicles in your neighborhood, though they should not cause any significant delays or other issues for residents in these areas at most times.

Filming will take place primarily inside a private business. However, beginning at approximately 8 p.m. on Wed., July 1, a small portion of Medford St., between Broadway and Lowell St., will be closed to all traffic until approximately 2 a.m. on Thurs. “No Parking” signs will apply beginning at 5 p.m. Detours for vehicles are as follows:

Cars traveling east on Broadway to Medford St. will be detoured onto Hinckley St. to Richardson St.
Cars traveling west on Medford St. will be detoured onto Central St. and Norwood Ave.
Cars on Lowell St. will be detoured at Vernon St. and Richardson St.
Somerville Police personnel will be stationed in these areas to assist with any traffic or safety issues.

If you have questions or concerns during this work, please contact Assistant Location Manager, Jeremy Fiske, at 508-864-6422.

I've never been to this store, but people have repeatedly praised it in this community. So I'm bringing you the sad news that it is closing this summer.
