I pass by Ball Square often and didn't even notice it being closed or under renovations, until yesterday, when they had some ladders and construction stuff inside, and papers announcing House of Kebab's grand opening today.
A construction worker and a restaurant employee both saw me looking inside, and the restaurant guy handed me a menu and said i should come check it out. (I think they missed the cue that they should have told me reassuring things about being sad that Yak and Yeti was gone.)
The inside looks about the same - I think they have taken down the wall of fabric webbing woven around the lights, but they still have the giant photo-wall of the Anapurna range, and the same chairs and tables.
It is moving from being a Nepali-Indian restaurant with a lunch buffet to being a kebab-focused Indian restaurant with a lunch buffet, an outpost of Kebab Factory over by Dali and the Biscuit on Washington st. The pumpkin tarkari and the momos are still on the menu, but otherwise the Nepali specialties have been replaced by other specials, they will still serve the usual Indian classics like saag and tikka masala, and they have a large menu section of kebabs, and of kebab wrap sandwiches.
I understand that the owners of Kebab Factory already owned Yak and Yeti, so while the effect is that the menu will be different, and probably the kitchen staff as well, the place didn't actually change hands entirely and it's more of a branding decision.
January 1-January 10 they have advertised that everything on the menu is 50% off, but I am not sure if this applies to the buffet pricing.
