Pediatrician

Hello,
We're looking for a pediatrician in the area - any suggestions?  The Harvard Vanguard in Davis would be the ideal super-easy location, so I wanted to see if anyone had experiences to share with the staff there.

That said, we see Julie Puncochar at HVMA in Davis, and we've really liked her. Friendly staff, easy scheduling, only brief waits to see the doctor. Dr. Puncochar herself is thorough and approachable--we don't feel weird asking questions--and she's good with tiny little babies. (Our tiny little baby is now 7 weeks old, so I can't really speak to how she might be with older kids.)

When I called the office to pick a pediatrician, they did warn me that Dr. Kruskal is great BUT it can be hard to get an appointment with him in flu season, since he's apparently their immunologist? And Dr. Puncochar is the only pediatrician there who works a full day on Fridays, though I think she's off on Thursdays instead.

This topic comes up a lot over that the Somerville Moms yahoo group too.

That said, I can also vouch for Dr Puncochar! She's been my daughter's pediatrician for 6 years and counting. Kiddo has also been seen by Dr Shoyer for the rare [need to schedule a same day appointment] and we like her too.

Seconding the suggestion of the Somerville Moms yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SomervilleMoms). If you join up, please do search the archives before posting. There is always LOTS of discussion of local pediatricians on that group.

Thanks for all the tips - so helpful! I've signed up for the SomervilleMoms list and now I need to schedule some meetings with doctors (most of the ones mentioned are accepting patients).

My experience with HV in Davis was years ago (2000) and so bad that I left in disgust. I will never, ever return. Ever. And I'll have the scar to remind me every day for the rest of my life.

If you have a car or don't mind the bus, Dr. Kristen Goodell at Medford Family Practice on High St. in Medford is the best pediatrician...and family care MD, I've encountered. Strongly recocmmend her.
