I suppose there was no more useful way of spending that money. How about giving it to a shelter or some other program for the vulnerable, and have a Boston Globe article about it? That would still provide publicity for the sponsor and actually do something good. The Mayor could also have his picture on the article and get some publicity too for encouraging the deal.
And why the heck do we need a movie theater here in Davis Square? Wouldn't it be better if people bought some canned goods and dropped them off at a local food pantry instead of spending their own money on a movie ticket?
Pointless and lame sarcasm attempt, I'm afraid. The corporation that paid for the fireworks could have been convinced to spend the funds for something more useful to the city. At least, a clever Mayor would have pulled that off and managed to get good publicity about doing so.
