I am now officially wondering if all the earlier fuss bringing the Soundbites/Ball Square stuff back to the front (with the coverage of a month plus old story) wasn't a clever ruse to raise interest....and then offer a $10 for $20 groupon at Ball Square Cafe.

Seriously, if tomorrow brings a Soundbites one, I'm calling setup.

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! TWO DINER OWNERS ENTER! ONE DINER OWNER LEAVES! We'll sell you the whole seat, but you'll ONLY NEED THE EDGE! (no, seriously. people are waiting for that seat. Eat faster.)

(I hadn't read all the comments in the earlier post until just now, and I just saw [livejournal.com profile] icecreamempress also made a monster truck show reference there. so I declare mine an homage, instead)

I'm a die-hard Ball Square Cafe fan, and even I was thinking the same thing. I'll be giving them a break from my weekly breakfasts for a while, that is certain. Too much drama in the BSC...

I'll come back to Ball Sq when I can be guaranteed a seat at one of the restaurants (Sound Bites, Kelly's or Ball Sq Cafe) before my blood sugar dives. By the time I get my meal (which is invariably awesome), I'm too cranky to enjoy it fully because I've been waiting in line so long.

Isn't the Groupon just going to make this situation worse?

They've sold over 2700 so far, so I'd say yes.

If you can get to SoundBites before 9am, you're pretty much good. Or on a weekday whenever. (I admit, I found this very challenging when I lived in Arlington, but now that I live literally around the corner...omnomnomelet goodness.)

It might be that the reporter filed the story earlier, but they didn't run it until this week. The same day the Somerville News article came out, I saw a reporter taking pictures and talking to Mike Moccia, and assumed that was the Globe.

Stories like this can sit for a while. Because they decided to go front page, it needed a lot more background that a short piece in the Globe North section.

Both these meatheads seems to be doing perfectly fine business-wise, I don't understand why they can't be content to lay back and let the money come rolling in without continually upping the ante. I mean seriously, how can either of them increase their revenue without extending hours? (How long before BSC stays open for dinner?)
