New pastry shop outside Davis Sq. on Highland Ave.

The Chocolate Tarte, a new pastry shop at 199c Highland Ave. (in the group of shops near the Armory), opened yesterday. I was there for all of 2 minutes to say "welcome" and to try a yummy mini cupcake. http://www.thechocolatetarte.com

Cute little place. Truly delicious tiny cupcakes (at least the chocolate ones I can vouch for.) Will report on the brownies and Snickerdoodles after dinner.

Thanks to your post, I stopped by and bought a brownie, cupcake, and iced coffee.

Linda, the owner, told me that they are not yet approved for any seating, and have to go through some process involving lawyers and zoning in order to install seats. I don't really understand this.

What does she need to do in order to become a food supplier for Armory events? She is definitely interested in this. I walked over to the Armory and brought back for her a bunch of leaflets advertising various upcoming Armory shows.

I bet this will happen soon -- the Armory thing that is. Hope the seating works out too.

I don't know much about zoning either but I'm not surprised that change of use from retail or whatever to a cafe involves some process. How was the coffee?

The iced coffee was OK, nothing special. Linda said that almost nobody had bought coffee all day, and they had 'turned off' the hot coffee by the time I arrived.

She has the shortest commute in Somerville since she lives across the street.
