This afternoon's storm ripped down a sidewalk tree on Day Street near Herbert, in front of the metered parking lot. Just a bit of the trunk remains in the ground; the rest of the tree is lying on the sidewalk now.

I've often seen tree damage in that location after storms. I hate to say it, but maybe the city should give up trying to plant a tree there.

What other damage have people seen today around Somerville?

Edit: If the damage is on city property such as streets, sidewalks, utility poles, and sewers, please report it to the city by calling 311 as well as posting here.

Lots of tree damage and fallen split trees off Broadway heading towards Johnnys from Teele Sq. One giant tree completely fell and is completely leaning on a house, broken tree is blocking a road, another tree is half blocking the road next to mine. I walked around and took some photos.

The city had barriers up immediately after the storm actually so no need to call.

Yeah, I was impressed with how fast they were dealing with the tree at the North St/Broadway intersection past Teele.

The storm drain on William St. in front of Unity Church was clogged, so the street was a deep lake. We tried to clear it without much luck. Water came up and over the sidewalk.

We saw a tree uprooted and leaning on the power lines on our way out of Davis Square about 6:15 pm. I can't remember if it was along Morrison or Highland Ave. - maybe the corner of Hancock Street. It was a huge old tree...the street corner had been closed off with yellow police tap and orange cones. What a storm!

That may be the tree that came down on the corner of Highland & Hancock, landing on one poor bastard's car & stretching across the street where the uppermost branches came to rest on someone else's SUV. I spoke w/the original car's owner after the mess had been cleaned up; miraculously enough, he was parked closely enough to the tree that it mainly leaned on the car--the right front side is messed up (hood & side dented) and the windshield shattered but still in one piece, but with any luck the important internal bits are OK--and the neighbor's SUV was fine (the neighbor was so happy he gave the other owner a beer). There was also a fair-sized branch on the Highland Playground in the corner of the basketball court, but I'm sure they'll get to taking care of that after the more urgent calls are handled.

We lost a big limb, just off Willow. It mostly fell in the street. I've cleaned it up now.

There was a microburst in East Arlington that did a ton of damage, don't know if it extended into Somerville. Lots of downed trees, powerlines, etc.

my street ended up with an impromptu block party for hours whilst we admired smashed cars, split trees, burly DPW workers -- and the nearby streets were nearly untouched.

Certainly around Melrose Street in Arlington had a lot of downed branches; big ones.

So many trees down and limbs broken all along Alewife from 16 to Broadway which is right on the line of East Arlington. I assume thats what did so much damage near my house.

Yea, as of 9 PM there was still a nigh-lake on 16 just past the light from route 2 on the way to Mass Ave, right where an officer often directs traffic during rush hour. The cars could get through but it was getting dark enough that there was almost no warning that the water was there until running right into it. No cones or barrels on approach for either direction, I'd've thought they'd've used that to direct traffic to the center-most lane on either side where it was most shallow (where most cars ended up needing to go once the water was noted). I've no idea if it's still there or not.

UGH.

i posted about this on twitter - if my car isn't running properly by the morning i am going to be PISSED.

i was coming home from whole foods sometime after 10pm - no lights, no barrels, nothing. it takes up both lanes and you cannot see it at all really until you go WOOSHing into it with your freaking car.

god dammit.

I think that happens every time there's a big rainstorm. (I don't go that route often enough, so I'm not sure.)

i will keep it in mind! i've been in arlington less than a year and am here usually only on weekends so i've yet to notice patterns like that (except for the section of our street which also floods whenever it rains even a little.)

yeah, we're on oxford between mass ave and broadway (capital theatre area) and everything on our (second floor) porch was literally swept off in one go. lots of trees/branches down - one across the street with some people in it. fortunately it looked like once they were able to get out of the car as the storm died down everyone and the car were okay. scary stuff though. i was finally sound asleep after not sleeping for three days when i was woken up by a combo of this and my roommate banging on my door thinking we'd have to go hide out in the neighbor's basement. sigh :(

The power is out on one of the streets between broadway and kidder. The police already know about it. A tree took a line down.

Huh. I live on a street by that description, but I still have my sweet, sweet electrons. Must be very localized.

It is, I think just one block of the street. The houses one block behind had their lights on but this one block everything was dark and some neighbors were talking as we walked by about how nstar better hurry up and fix things.

It wasn't Josephine, I think one or two towards Davis from Josephine.

On the corner of Thorndike and Kingston just off of the bike path - there's a very large branch dangling on the power line. It's pretty dangerous , especially now that it's dark. It's right in the middle of the street. I called 311, they connected me to the fire dpt, but they said they would get to it when they could.

A very large (30" or so diameter, I'd guess) tree went down on stickney ave. It damaged two houses fairly lightly and overall did about as little damage as possible, all things considered. Had it gone down in almost any other direction it would have crushed cars or taken down all the power/phone/cable lines.

Wow!

It sounded very strong. I heard lots of sirens around Porter Sq... Some even as the thunderstorm was still ongoing.

No tree damage near me, but I did see some poor bastards walking and biking around in the storm. I almost wanted to invite them in, but figured they must really have someplace to get to if they were out in that.

Here on Prichard Ave, about a third of our next-door neighbors' big maple came down between our houses, somehow managing to do almost no damage to either. It bent the gutter right above our bedroom, dumping water on the A/C in such a way as to get water into the house, but that was the worst of it.

There was a partially uprooted tree at Morrison and Grove leaning into the street; when I walked home around 10:30 the DPW was out dealing with it.

I also saw the downed tree limbs and mini-lake on 16; the road was making driving a challenge as early as 5:00 or so. Fortunately for me when coming home from the Fresh Pond mall, Rindge Ave was clear.

Down where I moved to, I was actually worried about flash floods. I was standing in a bus shelter and still got soaked.

A power line went down on Ossipee Road, but it was fixed sometime between 8pm and 11pm (didn't check on it during the game). Somehow, my happy little plants stayed on my back porch.

I saw two trees partially blocking the street on Powderhouse Blvd. this morning. There were also 8 (eight!) NStar trucks and 1 Verizon truck parked in Ball Square when I drove through around 8:30 A.M.

Last night, there was a gas leak on College Avenue, and the Tufts Convenience Store was partially without power.

And I don't have a dial tone on my landline phones.

What a lot of damage from such a brief storm!
