Tree coming down

The giant maple on Highland (next to the dance studio, at the end of Cherry Street) is being taken down as I write this. Does anyone know if there was a problem with the tree or they have plans for the lot?

I couldn't believe it. That tree looked perfectly healthy to me. It was one of the best features of the neighborhood; my main regret was that it was fenced off so I never even got to sit under it let alone touch the trunk.

I understand the economics; they'll probably put up 6 condos or something on that lot. But it still hurts, and my life has lost something now.
