If you'd like to support a local business while you're at it, there's Gnomon Copy (http://gnomonhs.com/).

A second thumbs up for Gnomon - they've done beautiful, reasonably priced printing work for a non-profit group that I work with. And they are FAST!

Depends on definition of 'local'. The UPS store is a franchise but it's owned by local people who are quite friendly.

I'm Cara, and I work the weekend shift at Gnomon Copy. I'll be here until 5:15 tonight... then an associate takes over for me while I go work at the A.R.T, but we're open until 7.
We're open tomorrow, too, 11 to 7.
Hopefully I can help you out!

Are you at Harvard Square or Medford?

After years of having to go out and find a photocopy place every time I needed a copy, I bought an HP Photosmart printer that also photocopies and scans. It was only about $110 at Best Buy, and the convenience of having a home copy machine has been out of this world. It's slower than a Xerox, of course, but it's still such a time-saver.

I have had an Epson all-in-one inkjet scanner/printer for years. It works wonderfully for black-and-white copies, but the one time I tried to make a color copy with it, it came out horribly. Color printing is fine, so I suspect the color scanning function just isn't up to the job.

If you're making copies in any volume, I think this is much more expensive than using a commercial shop, due to the ink consumption.

Among my many toys/printers, I have a Brother black and white laser all in one that I picked up at Staples on sale. Laser really is the way to go for black and white for both printing and copying. I think the per page cost on the Brother is about $.05 to $.10 but the convenience is what really wins. It's unfortunate that I can't find a good used HP all in one, because the per page black and white cost on a used HP LaserJet (using supplies from Ebay) is about $.01. True for the rare color copy you still need to go out.
