I somehow read that as "The Running of the Homeless". >_<

Not sure how serious this comment is, but there will actually be a team of homeless athletes at the SHC race from a new non-profit organization in Boston, Back on My Feet which uses running as a means of confidence and character building for those in transitional housing.

You can read more about it here:

A very little bit of information about Oktoberfest is here. Sounds like it will be a bigger deal this year with 6 restaurants participating. Last year it was just Redbones, but there was a lot more information available.

Be warned that Saturday is also homecoming at Tufts, meaning a huge tailgate party off Powderhouse Blvd. and a pretty high demand for parking around the football stadium. You can also expect a more drunken than average Saturday night if you live near Tufts students.

Here's a schedule of activities:

http://tuftsalumni.org/events-reunions/homecoming/

BTW, the Saturday run overlaps the Tufts Jumbo Stampede that starts at 9 am and runs down College Ave and Powderhouse. I assume the runners are aware of the other race, but it would be comic if someone finished in the wrong pack of runners. At least they aren't doing another set of street closures at a separate time: http://www.tuftsalumniboston.com/jumbostampede2009.htm

Here's an article at Tufts about the scheduling conflict (Tufts Pres is doing the SHC run): http://www.tuftsdaily.com/news/jumbos-set-to-stampede-in-5k-1.2351148

Do the race routes overlap? I can't find a map for the SHC 5K race.

Don't worry - the Jumbo Stampede is actually on Sunday, October 3rd. The link you have is from 2009 :)

Except that it says "Saturday, October 2nd" on the top of the linked page (they reused last year's link). The Tufts Daily article is also from today and references the events' conflicting times.

So I will continue to worry...
