Halloween at the Somerville!!

This Halloween weekend the Post-Meridian Radio Players are once again bringing live audio drama to the Somerville Theatre! Last year we brought you The Big Broadcast of 1938, featuring the War of the Worlds.

This year we’re doing The Big Broadcast of 1946 with three tales of terror, madness and mirth. We start with the Frank Cyrano Byfar Hour, a 1940s style comedy as Frank Cyrano deals with his crazy staff, meets Boris Karloff and survives some epically bad puns. Then we have Tomes of Terror, with two horrifying stories. First But Oh, What Happened to Hutchings? deals with murder, grave-robbing and more than one type of consumption. Then Sirens of War tells the tale of two doomed ships that should not have discounted the tales of a haunted river.

This is all presented in a 1940s radio drama style with live sound effects performed on stage. You can purchase time-appropriate candies from our cigarette girls and read through our version of the 1946 Boston Advertiser newspaper.

The show has three evening performances on October 28th-30th at 7:30pm and a 2:30 matinee on Halloween itself. The Halloween matinee will also have a costume contest with prizes!
The show is expected to run a little over 2 hours so you have plenty of time to hit the parties or trick-and-treating after the matinee.

I wonder how that would change the number of people that would come to see the show, which is how PMRP, as an organization, makes money to keep producing these shows.

If you could listen at home for free, why go out in the cold for a show?

Don't air the show live. Tape it and run it later in the year (or maybe even as a promo next October).

What's the difference between an "Adult General Admission" ticket and a "DOS General Admission" ticket?

I know we're super awesome and everyone should come see us, but why would someone choose to pay $5 more? Is there something special included with that option?

DOS is "Day of Show". It's actually the full price ticket...if you buy ahead you get the discounted rate.

Thanks for clarifying! One wonders why they bother putting the Day of Show option up ahead of time, though. Maybe I'm just easily confused. :)

We do that because it is upfront and honest, so that if you decide to buy on the DOS it isn't a sneak increase.

Good call! Do you ever have anyone actually buy a ticket at that level before the day of show, though? Or is there some sort of thing built into the website that won't let you do that? Just curious about the technology! :)

Very few shows have a DOS price, and I can't recall anyone buying early at the DOS level out of confusion. There is a way in the ticketing system to prevent that but as it hides the DOS price, we don't do that, again out of honesty.
