My husband found a Charlie Card in a pile of leaves. He checked it @ Davis T, and there is still some money left on it-- not just a few dollars... enough so that it'd be worth trying to find the rightful owner. I'd post it here, but what are the chances that the person who lost it is part of this LJ community? Should I email the MBTA? Post on craigslist? Is there a e-community bulletin @ Tufts?

(What should I tag this as, anyway? 'mbta' isn't quite right.)

If the person paid for it with a credit card, then the mbta has their info. If you register your charlie card, you can get it replaced if you lose or mangle it. Anyway, I'd try the MBTA directly.

But then again, I really have no idea.

Non-monthly cards can still be registered. Mine is.

If the registered user reports it lost, the MBTA will make it stop working and transfer its value to a new card.

My suggestion: give it to the Somerville Homeless Coalition, who are in the basement of the CVS/Boston Sports Club building in Davis Square.

I have lost several MBTA cards, all of which I fill up with my credit card, but I've never done anything more than that to register them.

(that said, when I lose my T pass, I assume I'm paying my own damned stupidity tax, so even if this lost one were mine, I'd be ok with it being donated to SHC to the like.)

Register your CharlieCard here, and the MBTA will replace it (and its pass or stored value) if you lose it.

Not any help at all in terms of finding this owner... but sticking a small address label onto the back of a CharlieCard seems like a great way to get it back to you.

Ooh, that's a good reminder to me to put my phone number on my card.

An alternative, if you don't think you can find the rightful owner, would be to offer it to a Spare Change sales person or other person in dire need?
