I just went to Sovereign Bank last week, got some documents notarized for free. I have an account there but the woman did not even ask for our account info. I believe most of the banks do it for free too.
This week, Bank of America asked me if I had an account there when I needed a document notarized. When I admitted that I didn't they suggested I try the UPS store. I told them that they were the ones who's sent me across the street to the bank.
Wainwright also asked if I had an account with them, but, as it happens, I do.
The maximum fee in MA depends on what you're having the notary do, but it's $2.00 and under. At that rate, it probably isn't worth their time to charge compared to the goodwill you get for doing it.
I go to Wainwright for my notary stuff. I do have an account with them.
I stopped at Sovereign the other day, since i had condo business to do there anyways, and while they did notarize my paper, the entire time the man tried to offer me a home loan/refinance or a home equity loan. I had my children with me in the stroller, and he began to ask me about their college funds, etc. So, while he did notarize my forms, I will never go back there (for the notary), as I don't appreciate trying to get an "upsale" while all I need is a quick signature. Wainwright has never tried to offer me any services while signing my papers.
I am curious- was it the man who sits at the middle desk? He has bugged me a few times before with various types of loans etc. The office towards the back with the woman is who did my documents and she didnt try to do anything other than the document signing.
It was! also, i forgot to add, that as I was finally wrapping up, he asked if he could call me next week to check in and see if i had any other banking needs. I told him no thank you and he gave me his card and asked I call him if i needed anything. Blah
