Hi there, davis_square,

One of my roommates is leaving at the end of the month, so we have a room available on January 1 in our lovely house--5 minutes walking from Ball Square! The rent is $600/month + utilities. Our landlord lives right upstairs, and is very quick about attending to any issues. Our kitchen is huge, and there are a washer and dryer right inside the apartment ($1/load). I have a friendly cat who could get along with another friendly cat.

My remaining roommate and I are 24 and 28, respectively. We're pretty chill and like to relax with a glass of wine at the end of the day but have independent lives.

Here is the craigslist posting, with pictures and more details: http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/roo/2089262227.html

Just as a note, it's actually illegal for you to set age requirements when it comes to renting out an apartment. I get that it happens all the time, but it's not legal.

Is it illegal when you are trying to find someone to sublet with you vs. being the landlord searching for tenants? I have not idea, and not trying to be argumentative at all, mostly just curious.

Yes. The wording is "Deny someone housing". You can find a writeup about it here:

I get why it happens all the time. I'm 30, and I don't particularly want to room with some giggly and obnoxious 18 year old girls, and I'd probably break the law in that situation, too. It's just illegal to do so.

I'm not sure I agree with your interpretation, because it says this:

"In addition to prohibiting discrimination based upon the federal laws above, Massachusetts Fair Housing Law prohibits discrimination based on marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, blindness, age, ancestry, hearing impairment, or possession of a seeing-eye or hearing-ear dog.2 The owner-occupied two-family exemption extends to the protected categories above and the same laws apply to discriminatory advertising or the use of a rental agent or other third party. "

which i would interpret to mean that an owner occupied two family CAN deny based on age, though they can't advertise as such.

Pick me!

oh hai! One of my roomies decided to move in with her BF for Jan 1 and I haven't been able to find a good mix of size/quiet/normalcy yet. Some of it is due to my weird schedule, in that I'm only free next week between 2-6. However, today is my day off and I'm seeing a place at 8 so it'd be super stellar if you guys were home today!
Obviously I've got a friendly cat, too... who is crawling on top of me right now :)

As a note, for people like me who do a price search and click the Cats Accepted box, your ad doesn't show up in my search :(

I forgot to say that I could come by tomorrow too, I'm seeing another place at 6:30 but could come by before that or maybe after, though I have evening plans with friends.

Oh and as for the extra info, I just turned 30 last week and work in TV (hence the odd hours).
