i'm having a craving for one of those pre-roasted or pre-fried whole or half grocery chickens (actually i mostly want the bones, but never mind about that :) anyone know where i can get such a thing without too much thrashing through the snow?

alternatively if anyplace would deliver in this, that'd work too. duck would work even better. i'd take peking duck if it were good even if it lacked for bones :)

thanks in advance!

Pemberton Farms often has these -- call them and ask.

I just bought one yesterday. Didja want my carcass, later today? I already threw away the bones of one leg, but I've barely touched the rest. I'm in North Cambridge, on the far side of Mass Ave, not far from the MBTA yard.

Sure thing! I'm willing to hold onto them until next Sunday, at which point I will really be needing the space back, but maybe I can be induced to bring them out your way, depending on the weather later this week.

i believe the star in porter also sells the cooked chickens. sounds like you won't be making it out there, but you can buy whole cooked duck at a few places in chinatown...

yeah, they (and pretty much all shaws/star) usually always have them, and the best part is they're something like $5.99. i always get them when i'm at a loss on what to have for dinner and starving. half goes directly into my food hole, the rest gets thrown into a ceasar salad the next day.

That's where I got mine. They're excellent. They come in at least three flavors, but I've never made it past "classic", because they're so yummy.

There's something about a specific time during they day when they advise buying them -- 4pm-8pm? -- and they try to coordinate putting out fresh ones then.

I'm a big believer in Foodler.com, the site that ties in to a bunch of different restaurants for delivery. You can search by food, and it pulls up who will bring it to you. Not sure if they're all functioning today, but worth a try!

I adore Foodler, though I spend too much in exchange for the awesome convenience. It's just so easy. I can pay for the food, delivery and tip all onscreen and never have to open my wallet. It could only be easier if they came upstairs and spooned it into my mouth.

Redbones has whole or half cooked chickens for $9 or $12. Normally they deliver, although it's worth checking if they deliver to you before placing the order. And tip well in this weather.

Yeah, delivering anything on a bike sounds..unfun today..though the OP is not too far from the square.

they don't deliver by bike in December through mid Feb, if I recall. I know for certain that rainy days get the van (and a warning that because they only have one van, it would take slightly longer), and I can't see that this would be any different.

I have bought them at McKinnon's, but they seem random there; if you're ill, I'd call. they're $4.99 when they have them.

Johnny Foodmasters has them, but I would call them and anywhere else first to make sure they still have them. You're talking about the rotisserie chickens, right? Boston Market has them, too, but that might be kind of a treck.

I have heard there's this place called 'mass chicken' that does just such a thing...
