Actual sleds, large enough for (say) a full-grown adult's butt *and* feet at the same time. Within walking distance of Davis or, failing that, close by on the T. Tags? I'm not visualizing sleds at Tags, but tell me.

Think one of these, but $10 molded plastic sleds from China would be fine. Do I have to go to Target? Target is far.

Actual eyewitness reports of sleds for sale only, please. For example, Alewife seems like a good place to go, but actually has only tiny faux sleds for people whose idea of fun is balancing on their butts rather than hurtling violently downhill toward solid objects.

EDIT: Tags is the winner. We went there first and they had two kinds of sleds in the corner closest to the Star entrance. There were $14 sleds and $22 sleds. We got two of the former. After 3 hours of sledding at Tufts, one had two big cracks but was still marginally usable.

I had a major sled FAIL 2 weeks ago. None at Tags, Henry Bears Park, CVS, or Modell's sports.

EMS has this and this listed on their website. Call their Harvard Square store tomorrow morning and ask if those items are in stock.

(what did you mean by "Aiewife"? the T station?)

You have to select each color separately -- the black one is in stock in Harvard Square.

Oops, I was looking at the first item, the 'Zipfy', which I guess you don't want.
Call them anyway, maybe they have something in stock that isn't on the website.

there's also 79 liquor stores within a crow's poop from alewife, which is much the same as a sled ride.

I found a perfectly serviceable longish plastic sled at Tags last year; fits me just fine, and has ridges on the bottom so it stays pointed in one direction (some may consider this a bug).

I saw them in the window of tags probably last week or two weeks ago. I can't promise they still have any though. (these were the full size plastic sleds, probably 3-4 feet long and 18 inches wide or so, so would fit an adult)

I've also heard that Tags has them this past week, but wasn't personally there yesterday or anything.

Target was the only place I found a sled within these specs.

Once you find what you're looking for, could you please post a final comment here saying where you got it? Thanks.

When in doubt, large garbage can covers can substitute - one still must be discerning with regards to handles and other such things, but in a pinch...

There are sleds at Stellabella Toys on Mass Ave by Porter. I don't remember how big they are but they do exist.

If all else fails (and perhaps it has by now), a Hefty trash bag makes a perfectly serviceable sled. Way, way back in the day, we called it "welfare sledding," but by golly, it worked. The lawn & leaf size bag is big enough for an adult to stick his or her feet in and pull it up over their butt. The kiddies can use the kitchen size, fun-enhanced if you tighten the drawstring around the waist (I know whereof I speak). So possibly, a very jury-rigged solution to your quest is sitting right in your cabinet.

in this same vein, we often use a big piece of tarp (granted, this is because we have a massive roll of black tarp from back in the days when we had a dark room in our house), and it works very well.
