Okay, so I actually declared it officially gone for the sake of the poll on Monday, then forgot to post. With the streets clean, it was getting hard to justify the idea that it still there in any meaningful way. I know there are still remnants of big piles (and even a teeny amount in my yard due to it getting shoveled into an apparently remarkably shaded spot), but let's face it, we are (at least for now) free of the evil frozen white stuff. Yay!

Plus it was Pi Day.

Which makes the sole winner [livejournal.com profile] kelkyag. All glory to them!

Of the 55 total guesses, there were only four earlier dates (one in Feb and three in Mar). The remaining fifty followed, with 13 more in March, 21 in April, 14 in May, and one each in June and July. If we end up with more snow that doesn't melt right away, there may be another winner.

Both the (rounded) mean and median averages were April 15, and the two most popular answers with four guesses each were April 15 and May 15. So the lesson here is do your taxes. Also we are apparently a very pessimistic bunch. (June and July? Come on!)

Arguments may now commence over my poor judgement in determining the results.

Not fully gone

The Day Street metered parking lot still has a pile of snow in its southeast corner. Even after today's rain it will still be there tomorrow.

Yes, but this is [livejournal.com profile] davis_square. Expecting there NOT to be an argument on what constitutes "gone" is a little unrealistic. :)

I saw bits in people's yards yesterday, though the rain may have washed it away by now.

I think consensus is highly unlikely! :)

Or an argument as to where to look for the remaining snow. I picked that parking lot because it's on my street and about as close to Davis Square as you can get without being right in the square.

But yeah, there's no longer any snow on the street, and all of the street parking places are finally usable.

haha, totally.

i was at the fenway AMC on sunday night and as we were pulling into the garage, i noticed a giant wall of snow against the building, easily twice as tall as i am. only, of course, it was completely black so i didn't even register what it was at first. so disgusting.

but all of the streets and sidewalks are clear here too (cambridgeport) and i'm so glad for that! i got so used to the snow being here i feel like i just one day looked and it was as if it had disappeared over night.

I just saw the Rite Aid lot over the weekend -- that pile is huge, probably because it's north-facing and gets no sunshine.

But what happens if it snows again in April or May? It's not over til it's over, you know...heck, it's not even spring, yet!

NO! I demand that the prize not be awarded until every last bit of snow is gone from behind the.... What's that you say? there's no actual prize? We're arguing over glory?

eh, that's never stopped me from arguing before!

Ok, where was I? Dang, lost my momentum.

I was the optimistic Feb. 20th; I figured, if I was right we all win, in a sense.

Eh, I was betting on some more large snow storms in March. Wishful thinking I suppose. I'm from California where it's typical to have snow in the mountains until May or June, even July in wet years, so that was coloring my judgment.

yeah. I also remember the one on May 10, 1977....all the schools had a snow day.

I was SOOOOOOO happy yesterday, when picking up my kids at their East Medford daycare, to see that all of the parking places had been reclaimed from the snow monster.

(For a while, the snow mountain covered ten parking spaces and part of the aisle between those spaces and the ones across. making backing out of the spaces across REALLY interesting.)

There is still (very dirty) snow in the dry cleaner parking lot on the corner of Cedar and Warwick Street.

Amazingly, a small amount of snow is still present in the parking lot behind Rite Aid. I had thought all the warm weather and rain would wash it away by now, but no.
