May is Bike Month in Somerville

Bike-related events are happening all month in Somerville, starting with the New England Bike Expo this weekend at the Armory:

• May 7-8  9 AM - 5 PM: New England Bike Expo at the Somerville Armory
• May 15  11AM - Mystic River Herring Run Bike Ride starts at Blessing of the Bay boat house on Shore Drive (I'll be co-leading this)
• May 16-20  8AM: Ride-ins daily to Somerville City Hall from 5 neighborhoods
• May 18  7:30 - 9AM: Somerville Bike Commuter Free Breakfast, Beacon St. Star Market parking lot
• May 20  BostonBikes Bike Commuter Convoys from Davis Square to Boston City Hall
(leave Davis at 7 am and 7:40 am)
• May 20  1PM: Join Mayor Curtatone on a bike ride around the City
• May 22  1:30PM: Somerville Historic Bike Ride - Meet at Somerville City Hall (I'll be co-leading this, too)
• Events happening throughout Massachusetts

Why do you say this? Roads are for everyone, and bicyclists do not contribute to air pollution, global warming, or depletion of petroleum resources.

Agreed, roads are for everyone, but then everyone should be operating on an even playing field. Bikers lunge into intersections under some freakish mindset that they are some hybrid of walkers and bikers. They ride through red lights like they don't matter. Drivers assume all of the liability, and for some reason bikers get off scott free.

Really? Don't contribute at all? What are bikes made of? How are they made? Where are they imported from? Where are they sold? Think about it.
