Yesterday's Somerville Journal has a front-page article about the new bookstore and its owner:

Former truck driver opens bookstore in Somerville's Ball Square

His aunt owned Annie's Books in Belmont and wanted to close it, so he took it over and moved it to Ball Square with a new name -- The Book Shop: Your Neighborhood Bookstore. Hours are 9 am to 7 pm weekdays, 9 am to 5 pm weekends.

(Earlier discussions of this store are here and here.)

I agree with you that it needs a more distinctive name. Maybe he could have a name-that-bookstore contest?

I was glad to visit the guy's store on the opening day. Nice guy, nice store. His inventory is still, um, airport-ish. Not all that much there to cater to geeks or pretentious hipsters, but I think we can fix that if we pretentious hipster geeks agree to start bringing our books to him for store credit.

Not just a truck driver -- a tow truck driver.

I plan to dump a load of sci-fi/fantasy on Gil this weekend. We gave him some reading suggestions the last time we were in, but I really think he would benefit from all of us explaining why we like a certain author.
