I can't remember anymore if curbside recycling started under Dorothy Kelly Gay or Mike Capuano, but this confirms that Davis Square had it in 2003, the year before Joe became mayor.

I do remember a time before curbside pickup, when you had to bring recyclables on Saturdays to either the DPW on Franey Road, or the former incinerator site in Brickbottom. Lots of cars waiting in long lines.

Was he involved in initiating the single-stream recycling or the extension of the bike path? Honestly, it sounds like CBS just simplified some of the examples of things he's done that can now be nit-picked.

It would have been funny if CBS included "Residents hated how easy it was to park, so he fixed that too"

Yes, single-stream recycling began last year in Ward 5 and will soon be extended to the rest of Somerville.

Mayor Joe has built one short new section of Community Path in Somerville Junction Park, between Woodbine and Central streets. An extension fron Cedar to Lowell street should begin construction within the next two years.

I'll also give him credit for bike lanes, especially on Somerville Avenue and Beacon Street (though the latter street desperately needs repaving). Maybe CBS doesn't know the difference between bike lanes and bike paths?

Yes, that definitely seemed like they simplified things to fit the allotted amount of time for their story.

We brought our old bin when we moved across Davis Square into our new gigs, in the fall of 1999. That bin was pretty beat up at that point, so at least a couple of years prior, at least?

Could curbside pickup have existed as early as the fall of 1992? We moved to town then as already hardcore recyclers, and I don't recall schlepping recyclables over to the DPW yard...

We definitely had the blue bins and curbside pickup when I moved here in January 1994.
