Brighde's Baubles will return to Davis on Thursday. We've missed a lot of folks; Salem has been somewhat lonely for us.
I have a doctor's appointment in Davis Square at 1:30 on Thursday. We'll be setting up in my usual spot, by the Holland Street entrance to the T, after my appointment. I expect to be there until 9:00 or 10:00 pm. I have a lot of new jewelry, including some witchy and Halloweeny stuff. 'Tis the season! ;) I am also happy to take requests if you'd like me to make you something and I have the materials on-hand; I'd only ask for a deposit of a few dollars to help ensure that you're really coming to pick up the finished item, unless I already know you personally.
My mini USB cord is MIA, so I haven't been able to get pictures of new stuff onto the computer. I'm going to hunt for it tonight, and will hopefully be able to post pics of some of the new stuff.
[ETA: Found the camera cord. Will post a link to pictures of new jewelry once I get them uploaded.]

Date: 2011-10-11 11:41 pm (UTC)And a quick update...
Date: 2011-10-11 08:52 pm (UTC)AJ & I should be starting to give tours at the World Of Witches Museum very soon. It'll be super part-time at least to start, because of disabilities and not wanting to disappoint the kind folks we'll be working with/for, but we'll see how we hold up and they seem very willing to work with us as far as needed accommodations.
I'm still waiting to find out whether I get to sell jewelry at the Winter Farmer's Market that starts next month and looking into a peddler's license, since I'm not able to sell my jewelry on the street here the way that I have in Boston and Somerville. I do have some pieces on display at New England Magic Shop and am trying to get more jewelry into other local stores, as well as reopen my Etsy shop once I find the rogue camera cord and have funds to pay fees from the summer.
Thanks to a friend helping us out with funds the past two weeks, we've been staying at a fleabag hotel in the area. There's only one bathroom per floor, but it hasn't been too bad so far except when we discovered the vomit explosion all over the hall and bathroom the other night. The biggest challenge has been having enough food and something akin to adequate nutrition while we've been without refrigeration or cooking facilities. (It's also kind of painful to think about having spent $500 here for two weeks, when that could have paid for a room in an apartment with an actual kitchen for a month for that amount... But we'd have needed the money upfront to pay for a month's rent.)
Anyway, we're hanging in here, working hard to find stability, and keeping fingers and toes crossed. It's nice that there's so much within walking distance and that there are buses when we need them, but there are definitely a lot of people and things we miss, being away from the city for almost a month now.

Date: 2011-10-12 05:23 am (UTC)I had been going to go to your blog tonight actually, cos I was just down at Occupy Boston, and I was thinking that if - god/whatever forbid - you have a gap in your nights under a roof again, you might find welcome in that encampment in a way that would feel very different from being just the two of you trying to stay safe somewhere. I am hoping, and believing, that it won't come to that though.

Date: 2011-10-12 07:59 pm (UTC)That's a really good idea if we ended up in a tougher spot again -- I'd actually had a similar thought.
On a related note, AJ & I have had many discussions regarding how screwed up it is that, the more desperately one needs something, the more opposed some people are to allowing that person to receive what they need. So sometimes protesters are allowed to participate in urban camping but homeless folks are not, for example. [I'm thinking and writing broadly, with all of the various Occupy ______ protests in mind. I know that arrests and abuse have taken place, and am well-aware that I've been too preoccupied with our stressful situation to keep up much with news.] Another example: the week leading up to Shakespeare in the Park in Davis, someone from Theatre@First was allowed to sleep in a tent to watch over the stage and equipment, but we would not have been allowed to set up and sleep in a tent in the park. I hope it's obvious that I'm not begrudging the folks in either example anything, just comparing situations...
Even being out in Davis selling jewelry, it often felt like I had the hardest time making a sale when we needed it the most, even if our outlook and projected moods were still upbeat. (Of course it was even harder when we were just plain miserable because we were having difficulty meeting basic needs.) It's a really interesting dynamic.
