Package thieves arrested

Theft of packages from doorsteps has been a continuing theme here on davis_square. I'm happy to see some police response:

FYI, anyone who lost a package, you can pick it up tomorrow morning at Somerville PD...

3 news stations tried to get in touch with me about that before the police actually managed to.

How did the TV stations know your package was stolen before the police knew that?

I guess the police were making the rounds informing people, but according to the detective, the court releases the names/addresses of the people whose property was stolen, so I guess the reporters jump on that info?

In my newspaper reporter days, the courts would release the addresses where thefts had occurred, but not the names of the people affected. This being the pre-Internet world, newspapers had a print "reverse telephone directory" where phone numbers were listed by address, so the sad low-level drones (me) would have to call all the phone numbers at the address to find the person affected and snag a comment from them.

I am sure that now the process is a kabillion times easier.
